XXXtian Babes gets pulled by Baptists

by Karen on September 20, 2008

GT_Mag When it comes to the excitement over Sarah Palin being offered the VP slot no one seems to exude it more than the religious right. Tony Perkins, a Southern Baptist and president of FRC, declared her nomination “an outstanding pick”.

The key words in that last sentence is “Southern Baptist” and if there’s one thing the typical southern Baptist man may hate more than a gay man it’s a woman who doesn’t know her place.  While they may bitch about birth control, abortion and divorce, what really gets them going is women pastors.

So it’s no surprise that they’ve pulled the latest issue of Gospel Today from the shelves of Lifeway Christian Bookstore, a national chain run by the SBC because the cover has a photo of women in bikinis women who are pastors in their respective churches.

What’s been amusing however  is how much the leaders are pretending that they’re not being hypocrites in their support for Palin while continuing to insist women must be “servant leaders” never just plain leaders like the men.

But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence.

You’ll note that there’s no asterisk referring one to a note that “sit down and shut the fuck up” only applies at home and church but never in public.

Southern Baptists.  Keeping the Hypocrisy in Religion since 1845.

Copeland claims Huckabee supports his holy war

by Karen on February 1, 2008

Kenneth Copeland is claiming that Mike Huckabee supports him in his “holy war” against Senator Grassley and that that during a conversation with Huckabee about the investigation Huckabee literally screamed:

“Are you kidding me? Why should I stand with them and not stand with you? They’ve only got 11 percent approval rating.” And then he said, “Kenneth Copeland, I will stand with you.” He said, “You’re trying to get prosperity to the people and they’re trying to take it away from ‘em.” He said, “I will stand with you any time, anywhere, on any issue.” That settled that right there. I said, “Yeah, that’s my man! That’s my man, right there.”

I find it hard to believe that a Baptist, much less a Southern Baptist such as Huckabee, would support anyone preaching “prosperity” as it’s usually considered to be a corruption of “biblical” Christianity. So, either Copeland is lying (and I don’t think he is) or Huckabee is just another hypocrite who’ll say/do anything to get the support of the faith-heads.

Here’s the video of Copeland making the claim:
