Most religious groups balk at the idea of a woman being in charge. In fact, the Catholic church recently stating that ordaining women is on par with raping children. Other Christian groups have split because a woman was allowed to do more than clean the sanctuary.
Not so with Buddhism. None other than the Dalai Lama has stated that there’s nothing in Buddhism that would preclude a woman from taking his place.
As you can probably guess from the title of this post, there’s only one hitch. While having a vagina is alright, been less than physically appealing to men is not:
“And I also mentioned in case Dalai Lama’s incarnation one female comes then must be very attractive female. So the very reason, you see more influence to others, an ugly female then may not much effective,” added Dalai Lama.
Now, if I were the Dalai Lama, I’d make it a point to come back as an ugly woman and state that the next male Dalai Lama has to be a clone of Naveen Andrews.
Should you ever wish to call someone out for inappropriate behaviour, there’s a simple rule you should keep in mind when doing so.
Do not engage in the behaviour you’re calling the other person out for.
For example, if you want to call someone out on things they’ve said or written about women you should refrain from referring to women as somehow inferior to men. As strange as it may sound, once you call someone else a misogynist, it’s considered hypocrisy (at the very least) to precede to engage in misogyny yourself.
Via Feministing comes this hilarious video of a Christian man trying to explain how it’s okay if vaginal sex hurts cuz we womenz only exist for the sexual pleasure of the menz:
Fair warning: video includes wanton abuse of an orange with a spoon. You’d do well to avoid drinking/eating while viewing.
Click on the link to Feministing above if you’d like to see him explain how condoms won’t protect you from AIDS using (I kid you not) a glass, a strainer and some rotten dairy product.
Here’s a fascinating (in a disturbing way) article about the push by Christian men to turn back the clock on women’s liberation and the women who are helping them do it. As an alternative, the movement offers a "separate but equal" division of duties and authority. Men, the embodiment of Christ, are the breadwinners and [...]
Number 41 on pro-choice women: For those of you who can’t watch or don’t want to watch the video here’s the rundown: Talking head says something about lighter moments, Bill Clinton & cuts to: Pappy Bush making a “joke” about a run in he had with a pro-choice woman whom he described as the ugliest [...]
I’ve said it time and again that religion is no friend to women nor any man who is not personally offended that he entered this world via a vagina. As evidence I’d like to point ya’ll towards this post by Nullfidian about a toy for the children of Catholics born with the only genitalia acceptable [...]
These are the words of an Egyptian lawyer named Nagla Al Imam in an interview where she, yes SHE, encourages Arabic men to sexually harass Israeli women and girls as a new form of resistance. Why does she support such behaviour? Because “they [Israelis] violate our rights, and they rape the land”. She goes on [...]
Attractive Girls Union Refuses To Enter Into Talks With Mike Greenman Utterly hilarious (via Amanda). Please see Jeff Fecke’s explaination of “Nice Guys” too. It’s pure gold.
Some Republican strategist has decided to share with us seven reasons McCain and Palin will be coming out the winners come November 4th. Reason number four is none other than women ‘who feel Senator Clinton was treated unfairly’ by the party, the media and Obama. We’re allegedly going to remember this and vote against Obama. [...]

Those who cling to the untrue doctrine that violence never settles anything would be advised to conjure up the ghosts of Napoleon Bonaparte and of the Duke of Wellington and let them debate it. The ghost of Hitler could referee, and the jury might well be the Dodo, the Great Auk, and the Passenger Pigeon.
Violence, naked force, has settled more issues in history than has any other factor, and the contrary opinion is wishful thinking at its worst. Nations and peoples who forget this basic truth have always paid for it with their lives and freedoms. — Robert A. Heinlein
