Politics

3…2…1… Outrage!

Profiling. It’s only wrong when it happens to white people. It’s completely fair and just to target people of colour and religious minorities. Those people should just suck it up as it’s othing like being targeted for your political beliefs:

I wonder if they were taped in seperate rooms as I don’t think I would’ve remained so calm having such a hypocrite tell me it was okay that I was profiled, but an outrage that it happened to him.

O’Donnell Aide: Obama “still” a Muslim

An aide to Christine O’Donnell seems to be a bit convinced that Obama has spent the last 20 or so years fabricating being a Christian and is, in fact, “still” a Muslim:

Moseley asserted that because Obama had recited to a reporter the Muslim call to prayer (which he apparently learned as a child in Indonesia) he must be a Muslim: “According to Islamic scholars, reciting this Muslim declaration of faith makes one a Muslim.” … Maintaining that Obama attended school in Indonesia as a Muslim, Mosely noted, “Once a Muslim, always a Muslim.”

Why does he think Obama would do such a thing? Taqiyya!:

Islamic teaching encourages strategic deception, when necessary, to advance Islam throughout the world. It is possible that a Muslim could intentionally pose as a convert, in a church that talked about Jesus as only a moral teacher, as Muslims already believe.

You can read the whole thing over at Mother Jones. It’s worth the click. Trust me.

Burn the flag

Much ado has been made about how Muslims overseas have been burning American flags in protest of American assholery towards Islam these last couple of months.

I say ‘let ‘em burn it’ because it doesn’t matter. America has a much more important item in it’s possession. It’s called the constitution. And today is it’s ‘birthday’.

Some people would do well to spend some time today actually reading it. We (and they) can burn as many flags as we want as long as our constitution remains intact because that flag would mean nothing without it.

Stewart: Beyond the Palin

Satirical piece by the Daily Show on how Democrats can still mess things up in Delaware and essentially hand the seat over to tea partier Christine O’Donnell:

The best part is the nightmare scenario:

OLIVER: It’s a good point, but please, gentlemen, I appreciate your speculation, but you’re forgetting that the Democrats are a dynamic, innovative party, constantly thinking of new ways to f*ck up a sure thing.

I believe the Democrats will try to usurp the Tea Party’s folksiness by throwing a working man-themed fundraiser, where the likes of Sean Penn and Barbra Streisand dine on panko-crusted mahi mahi in the back of will.i.am’s stretch Prius.

Whilst the bald eagle they rented to provide a patriotic flair attacks a group of nearby handicapped schoolchildren, forcing the frontrunning can’t-lose Democratic candidate to beat that bald eagle to death in front of live television cameras with the nearest large book he can find, which is….

STEWART: Don’t say it.

OLIVER: You know it, a Koran.

I ♥ John Oliver.

Lions & Tigers & Palin, Oh My!

I’m probably going to have to spend this coming fall ignoring politics as much as possible because it looks like the Democratic party is going to be playing “but, our opponents are worse!!”:

“You have a good opportunity to remind your neighbors, your friends and your family members about who the real Republican Party is,” Mr. Plouffe said. “The very best organizer and fund-raiser in the Democratic Party is going to be here in Iowa — Sarah Palin.”

A friend of ours became practically unhinged due to the ‘politics of fear’ promoted by the party faithful during the run-up to the presidential election. I so do not want a repeat of that experience.

Rick Perry for Creationism

With the race with Bill White as close as it is, Rick Perry has decided to lay on the religiosity quite thick.  Not only does he think the Texas Board of Education is doing a bang up job, he supports teaching creationism in Texas schoolrooms:

Explain where you stand on evolution-creationism being taught in school.

I am a firm believer in intelligent design as a matter of faith and intellect, and I believe it should be presented in schools alongside the theories of evolution. The State Board of Education has been charged with the task of adopting curriculum requirements for Texas public schools and recently adopted guidelines that call for the examination of all sides of a scientific theory, which will encourage critical thinking in our students, an essential learning skill.

Once again he shows why he has the nickname “Governor Goodhair”. Hopefully he’ll be “Ex-Governor Goodhair” before long.

Grayson on core liberal values

Alan Grayson, the delightfully incendiary* freshman representative for Florida, talks about his core values with Glenn Greenwald:

You can find more interviews here on Facebook.

*He’s mocked the Republicans over their “healthcare”, said they’d ban bacon if Obama ate a BLT & has also pretty much told Dick Cheney to STFU during an interview with Chris Matthews.
