One guy at about seven minutes talks about how Muslims already have mosques in NYC and don’t need to build anymore. I wonder if I can use that one to stop a church from going up about a half mile away.
Afterall, there’s already 20 within a one mile radius and those are just the ones that show up on Google. Do they really need another one?
It looks like the anti-Muslim bug that’s been going around has finally made it’s way to southern Europe. Apparently, Italy is one of those countries that not only gives money to religion, but has a list of “official” religions.
Islam is not one of them and, if the bigots have their way, won’t become one of them. What bugs me is that Italian lawmakers recently voted to deny Islam official status as a religion over, amongst other things, the treatment of women by Muslim men:
Islam is not an established religion in Italy and there is only one official mosque in the country, Rome’s Grand Mosque (photo). Politicians from the ruling coalition cite radical imams, polygamy and failure to uphold women’s rightsby Muslims immigrants as obstacles to recognising Islam as an official religion in Italy (via).
This would be the same country that recognizes Catholicism as an official religion. A religion that has never upheld the rights of women. A religion that has members who do not uphold women’s rights. A religion that continues to actively works against the rights of women, not just in Italy, but throughout the entire world.
The Catholic church has opposed (and continues to oppose) the use of condoms in AIDS stricken areas of Africa (women constitute the majority of new infections). It has kicked out a mother for her support of her 9 year old daughter getting an abortion and defended it.
It also opposes birth control and abortion. Women are also officially banned from holding office in the church and any Catholic man who goes against this will be kicked out.
How do you say “Y’all are all a bunch of bloody fucking hypocrites!” in Italian?
Harry Reid has decided to address the outrage some of us have expressed over Democratic senators organizing against the party. And being the rotten fucking coward that he is, this is what he said (via: Think Progress): I think it’s very unwise and not helpful," Reid said Friday morning. "These groups should leave them alone. My morning ritual consists of getting a big cup of coffee, going outside to have a smoke & reading the editorial page in the Chronicle. More often than not, the letters frustrate me. Such was not the case this morning thanks to John Grothues who wrote in about the principled stands our esteemed politicians such [...]
The Senate DINO’s have decided to formally unite against Obama: The members are: “Leading the new group are Democratic Sens. He’s lifted the ban on embryonic stem cell research, is working on revoking the conscientious objector clause for medical personnel and he’s also established a new post in the state department for international women’s issues (source): US President Barack Obama announced Friday the creation of a new foreign policy position designed to tackle global women’s [...]
If there’s one thing conservatives love to whine about it is the ‘pre-born babies’ that are ‘murdered’ every day in America. So you’d think they’d actually give a fuck or two about ‘post-born babies’, right? Wrong. Greg Sargent got his hands on a list of things they would like eliminated or reduced from the stimulus [...]
If you’re one to pay attention to the major news networks, you may have noticed they’ve been covering Obama’s stimulus plan, which the Republicans really, really despise. Guess which one has been extremely biased towards the Republicans point of view? If you’re thinking Fox News, you’d be wrong. CNN takes the title for the most [...]
You may have read about Blagojevich comparing himself to the biggest names in Civil and Human Rights, but here’s your chance to actually watch him do it: Words fail me. Well, no they don’t. It’s absolutely fucking astounding to see a white man say something like that. Fucking astounding.
The fact that a believer is happier than a sceptic is no more to the point than the fact that a drunken man is happier than a sober one. The happiness of credulity is a cheap and dangerous quality. — George Bernard Shaw
