It’s the lack of silence that offends

by Karen on June 4, 2008

silence_ducttapeJerry Marszalek, a football coach in Michigan, has lost his job after allowing an assistant to pester Muslim students into becoming Christians. As you can expect, the professional Christian set is not happy about the development and have decided to spin it as yet another act of persecution – against Christians.

According to an article on the Christian Newswire condemning the “persecution”, Christian persecution in America has taken on several forms. One of these forms is “a rising intolerance for proselytising”.

In recent years, Christian persecution has taken on a variety of forms in the United States—from a rising intolerance for proselytising to the eradication of nearly all historical Christian references in public school textbooks.

Yes, you read that right. You are not allowed to tell a Christian recruiter to leave you alone. If you do so, you are persecuting that Christian. They have a god given right to annoy and it’s your job to sit in gracious silence when they start prattling on about the Jebus.

So the next time you hear one whining about big bad atheists being oh so mean to them, remember that they think that anything but complete silence is persecution.

One of the arguments for supporting the democratic nominee this fall is that a failure to put a democrat in office will result in the further erosion of reproductive freedom.

This argument annoys and angers me because 1) it’s fear-based and 2) democrats have been selling out women for years now. If there’s one thing Democrats have become quite consistent at it’s declaring the rights of women to be something “we” can afford to undermine.

The latest example is SB 776 in Michigan which was just passed 74-32 with 24 Democrats voting for it. It outlaws, on the state level, so-called “partial birth abortions”. There is no exemption for the health of the mother.

Yet, board after board, blog after blog, talking point after talking point insists that unless I vote Democrat this fall my rights as a woman will be eroded. That sound you just heard? That was me snorting at the preposterous idea that my rights as well as the rights/privileges of others will be protected by Democrats.

It’s become quite clear that when an election season rolls around, there isn’t any group/idea the Democrats won’t sell out in order to get/remain in power.

So until such time as the Democrats quit selling out women, gay people and a host of other groups/ideas – fuck them all. I will no longer be party too such a scam.

The Rules in Florida & Michigan

by Karen on May 22, 2008

One of the things that’s baffled me this election season is how so many don’t seem to grasp the fact that Hillary Clinton did not break the rules by not removing her name from the ballots in Michigan and Florida.

Thankfully, Zuzu of Shakesville has put up a post explaining this and a few other things that have cropped up in plain ole English that I’d like to recommend to everyone.
