Thinking leads to ignorance?

A church over in Shreveport, Louisiana recently decided to have an old fashioned book burning which was picked up by the local news.

Nothing new, really. Small Christian communities do it all the time here in the south it seems. In fact, there’s a church about 30 minutes north of here that should be doing it’s annual book burning any day now.

What I wanted to share was a quote by the guy who led it  over on one of the news sites in response to a commenter.

Bless you…I am James the director. Now, Dixiechick, God’s rules are timeless…I do not think people are too stupid to think for themselves. But if they think for themselves they are choosing the path of least resistance that leads to ignorance and the Bible says God’s people perish for lack of knowledge. Then He sends people who love Him and His creation enough to wake them up. I love you!

Now, personally, I’d say the “path of least resistance” is actively choosing to not think for oneself. That’s how you end up truly ignorant. That’s how you end up standing around a fire watching, perhaps even participating, in the destruction of a book you probably haven’t even read but “know” is evil because your leader told you it was.

Louisiana makes abortion a crime

Angry Woman

Louisiana legislators have passed a law banning the termination of late term pregnancies. There are no exceptions for the woman’s health. Doctors who make one themselves are subject to arrest. The punishment for acting on the idea that women are entitled to full medical care in all situations is a fine and up to ten years in prison.

Can you say fucked the hell up? Those of the belief that women are life support systems for uteruses that are owned by the men in their lives just effectively made it a fucking crime in the state of Louisiana to value the health and welfare of the woman over the contents of her uterus.

What’s even more annoying is that papers and media outlets are only saying that Governor Blanco hasn’t indicated if she’ll sign it with no reference to the one she signed last year about the same time (html version of SB 33) Called a ‘trigger law’ as it only goes into effect upon the federal termination of civil rights for women, it makes pregnancy termination a crime in most instances.

Governor Blanco thinks it’s acceptable to arrest a doctor for terminating a pregnancy at 12 weeks. How can she not think it’s acceptable to arrest a doctor for terminating a pregnancy at 28 weeks?

As a woman and a mother to a daughter, I’m almost at a loss to describe how frustrated and angry I am about this. As it stands, I’m currently reading a book that insinuates to some degree that as an atheist, the hardest thing I’m ever going to have to explain to my daughter is death.

Bullshit.

The hardest thing I’m ever going to have to explain to her is that a good segment of the population think she is a thing to be bought and sold between men, that a another segment plays along with that idea and that more than a few will act like the sky is falling if she gets a bit “bitchy” about it.

Death ain’t got nothing on that.

A Rant about Democrats

I have had it with the Democrats. Governor Blanco of Lousiana has signed the abortion ban bill and that is the last straw for me. The Democrats are supposed to be about representing the little guy – folks like me and my family. Instead we get bitches and bastards like Blanco:

“Today, I signed into law Senate Bill No. 33 by Senator Ben Nevers of Bogalusa. This bill, passed by an overwelming majority of the Legislature, would prohibit abortion in Louisiana, except when necessary to save the life of the mother.

This measure takes effect in Lousiana if the US Supreme Court overturns Roe v Wade, in whole or in part, or if the US Constitution is amended allowing states to prohibit abortions.

I along with many other pro-life legislatures, had hoped this bill would include special protections for women in cases of rape and incest. In the end, these exceptions did not pass, but the central provision of the bill supports and reflects my personal beliefs”

Now, I can’t bring myself to vote for a Republican – but I will not vote for another Democrat until that damn party straightens it’s ass out and makes something besides getting elected a priority.

And to any diehard supporter – bite my ass. The democratic party is a disgrace. It stands for nothing. Absolutely nothing. It has backed down on civil rights for non-whites, it gives lip service to the rights of homosexuals and it has completely abandoned any pretense of supporting the rights of women.

It fucking sucks and it will not get a single penny or vote from me from this day forward.

Governor Blanco – a Democrat – To Sign Abortion Ban Bill

Governor Blanco, a Democrat, has stated she will not forgo signing a bill banning abortions and subjecting medical personnel to ten years of prison time:

In an interview with The Associated Press, Blanco says she anticipates signing the bill. She says she believes an exception for rape and incest victims to get an abortion, a proposal rejected by both the House and Senate, would have “been reasonable,” but she said she wouldn’t reject the bill for that reason.Under the measure, doctors found guilty of performing abortions would face up to ten years in prison and fines of 100-thousand dollars.

See, this is what we get for voting for people because they’re Democrats. I personally pledge to vote for anyone but a damn Democrat until the party straightens it’s arse out and gets rid of republican-lites.
