Intense Debate

by Karen on October 13, 2008

tin_can Earlier this year I signed up for Intense Debate (ID), but never got around to installing it here.  Now one of my favourite blogs has installed it so I figured what the hell and installed it this morning.  The last 500 or so comments have been imported.  The rest weren’t imported and won’t be shown unless I take out ID.

Some of the imported comments look stupid as the styling codes were imported as part of the comments themselves, but there appears to be no way to change that so they’re just going to remain stupid looking.  Blame ID, not me.

The biggest change is that the comments are now threaded and you can reply to specific comments instead of having to rely on “@whoever” and the like.  To me, that’s the best thing about ID as I’ve been looking for a way to have threaded comments for a while now but only found plug-ins that, to put it mildly, made pulling my teeth out with a pair of tweezers seem easy and painless.

Any questions?

UPDATE: Well, that was short lived.  Got a msg that the tabs were missing from the sidebar and after some poking around I discovered that ID’s what caused them to disappear.  So, until I figure out to get the tabs & ID to work together, no more ID for my blog.

I finally made the jump to Linux after one bloody virus related pop-up too many on Windows this past weekend. So far, everything’s been good. But there’s one thing that’s driving me about batty. I can’t figure out how to stop Firefox from opening multiple windows when I click on a link in an email or the occasional site.

I swear there was an option on Windows that when checked forced Firefox to open a new tab if it was already open. Am I going blind, senile or this not an option on the Linux version?

Won’t do that again

Know what happens when you install a Microsoft beta under “what could happen” thinking? I’ll tell you. Your computer won’t reboot properly after a crash, forcing you to reinstall the OS just to find out you can’t activate it and the support folks don’t know what the f’ went wrong. So, you have to find [...]
