Barack Obama

O’Donnell Aide: Obama “still” a Muslim

An aide to Christine O’Donnell seems to be a bit convinced that Obama has spent the last 20 or so years fabricating being a Christian and is, in fact, “still” a Muslim:

Moseley asserted that because Obama had recited to a reporter the Muslim call to prayer (which he apparently learned as a child in Indonesia) he must be a Muslim: “According to Islamic scholars, reciting this Muslim declaration of faith makes one a Muslim.” … Maintaining that Obama attended school in Indonesia as a Muslim, Mosely noted, “Once a Muslim, always a Muslim.”

Why does he think Obama would do such a thing? Taqiyya!:

Islamic teaching encourages strategic deception, when necessary, to advance Islam throughout the world. It is possible that a Muslim could intentionally pose as a convert, in a church that talked about Jesus as only a moral teacher, as Muslims already believe.

You can read the whole thing over at Mother Jones. It’s worth the click. Trust me.

Obama’s talk is good, but his walk is crooked

Much ado was made about President Obama’s mentioning of non-believers in his inaugural speech, but now that the rubber has hit the road, Obama has decided to accept the title of Honorary President of the Boy Scouts:

Obama was meeting with a delegation of the Boy Scouts in the Oval Office on Tuesday afternoon, at which time he was to accept the group’s 2008 Report to the Nation.

A Boy Scouts spokesman said Obama has indicated he will accept the title of honorary president.

“We believe one of our greatest strengths as a nation is that we can disagree on a number of issues while agreeing to support the common good,” Deron Smith, a spokesman for BSA, told FOXNews.com.

“We’re a voluntary, private organization for families that share our values,” he added. “While many may disagree with our policies, there’s no question that we’re part of the common good and have been for 100 years.”

And one of those values is continued discrimination against non-believers and gay people.  I’m not surprised, but I am sick of the hypocrisy when it comes to dealing with bigotry against atheists and gay people.

The New Prez Has a Backbone

Sen. Barack Obama, democratic presidential hopeful, puts on a hat given to him during the rally at Auditorium Shores, Friday afternoon. One of the things that disturbed me about Obama when he was running for president was that he seemed to go out of his way to dismiss the idea that there were real issues between liberals (aka: blue) and conservatives (aka: red).

Though he talked a great game, I was somewhat convinced that the first time a Republican threatened to have a tantrum, he’d cave like a stressed out parent who just wants the shrieking to stop no matter what.

Well, he does want the shrieking to stop, but he’s apparently not going to be caving in as there are now two reports that he has put his foot down with Republican would-be tantrum throwers.

The first report comes from the Wall Street Journal blog and states that when some Republicans wanted to give him grief over his stimulus package he replied with two words.  “I won”.

The other is from the Telegraph and it reports that he told Republican office holders that they cannot “listen to Rush Limbaugh and get things done.”

Both remarks are being painted as being extremely ideological and as a sign Obama is going to be an partisan fuckwit, but I don’t think so.  I think it’s a sign that he does hold the moderate to liberal ideas that he’s spoken about and that unless given sufficient reason to change his mind (and tantrums aren’t sufficient reasons), he’s not going to be changing his mind.

In other words, he has a backbone and he’s not afraid to use it.

Bravo!

The Cleanup Begins

According to CNN, Obama’s Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel sent a memo out yesterday halting all pending regulations until Obama’s administration reviews them:

White House officials tell CNN Obama Chief Staff of Staff Rahm Emanuel sent a memo Tuesday to all agencies and departments of the federal government. The memo halts further consideration of pending regulations throughout the government until a legal and policy review can be conducted by the Obama administration.

I’m not sure what this means for the new HHS Regulations that were recently green lighted, but it’s good to see that Obama and team are on the ball about this.

A bridge too far

Much has been written about the insult that is Rick Warren giving the invocation at the inauguration of a Democratic president and de facto leader of a political party that is supposed to honour the civil and human rights of all, not just the civil and human rights of straight, preferably white, men.

No one, however, has in my opinion put it as well as Katha Pollitt in her piece in the LA Times today:

To understand how angry and disappointed many Democrats are that Barack Obama has invited evangelical preacher Rick Warren to give the invocation at his inaugural, imagine if a President-elect John McCain had offered this unique honor to the Rev. Al Sharpton — or the Rev. Jeremiah A. Wright Jr.

I know, it’s hard to picture: John McCain would never do that in a million years. Republicans respect their base even when, as in McCain’s case, it doesn’t really return the favor.

Only Democrats, it seems, reward their most loyal supporters — feminists, gays, liberals, opponents of the war, members of the reality-based community — by elbowing them aside to embrace their opponents instead.

She goes on to detail all the ways Warren’s particular brand of Christianity stands in stark contrast to what Democrats are supposed to stand for and what many Americans happen to actually believe themselves.

She finishes with this:

In a news conference Thursday, Obama defended the choice of Warren: “It is important for the country to come together even though we may have disagreements on certain social issues.” That’s all very well, but excuse me if I don’t feel all warm and fuzzy.

Obama won thanks to the strenuous efforts of people who’ve spent the last eight years appalled by the Bush administration’s wars and violations of human rights, its attacks on gays and women, its denigration of science, its general pandering to bigotry and ignorance in the name of God.

I’m all for building bridges, but honoring Warren, who insults Obama’s base as perverts and murderers, is definitely a bridge too far.

Truer words have never been written down. Warren is an insult to the base of the Democratic party and to Americans in general.  Obama should be ashamed of himself.

What will Warren say?

Someone has an idea or two on what Warren might say:

O Lord, as we come together on this historic and solemn occasion to inaugurate a president and vice president. We pray, O Lord, for President-elect Barack Obama and Vice President-elect Joseph Biden, to whom You have entrusted leadership of this nation at this moment in history.

We pray for their advisors and supporters, particularly their Jewish advisors and supporters, who will surely roast in hell if they do not abandon their refusal to accept the Lord Jesus Christ as their Savior.

Pray for the conversion of Obama chief advisor David Axelrod and his economic wise man Larry Summers, his early supporters Lester Crown and his campaign finance chair Penny Pritzker, for, as the Bible says, there will be a day when there will be a great revival of faith in God through Jesus among the Jewish people. (Romans 11).

Obviously, this is a day that we, as believers in Christ, want to pray for! Let the light of Christian salvation come to the Jewish Chief of Staff, Rahm Emanuel and his family, some of whom survived the German effort to bring them to Christian truth in the last generation.

I don’t think Warren is stupid enough to be honest, but since I’m still pissed the fuck off about Obama once again trying to distance himself from progressive ideas, I can’t say that I’d be upset if Warren were to do something like the above.

Fierce advocate?!?

Obama’s not only defended his choice of Rick Warren, but is also claiming to be a fierce advocate of equality for the LGBT community.

Obama told reporters in Chicago that America needs to “come together,” even when there’s disagreement on social issues. He also said it’s “no secret” that he’s a “fierce advocate for equality” for gays and lesbians — and he said that support will continue.

Exactly what the fuck has this guy been smoking? Because it’s clearly not nicotine. Fierce advocates of  equality do not give a seat of honour to the fierce advocates of inequality!

What a fucking letdown.  I was looking forward to this January. Now, it’s like it’s 1996 again.  Bah, humbug.
