What could possibly go wrong?

So Mike Stahl, a pastor based in Florida, wants to create a registry just for atheists. Not to worry though. Physical addresses won’t be released. Just names & photos, organized by state & town. How could such a neutral thing be used for bad things? What reason would an atheist have to be, shall we say, leery of appearing on such a list?

How about using it to do this:

In which case we could begin to witness to them and warn them of the dangers of atheism . Or perhaps they are radical atheists , whose hearts are as hard as Pharaoh’s , in that case , if they are business owners , we would encourage all our Christian friends , as well as the various churches and their congregations NOT to patronize them as we would only be “feeding” Satan . (source - the good pastor has deleted the blog, the cache is here.)

Nothing wrong with that!  Only a faux-atheist would resent being proselytized badgered in such a manner. And surely it’s okay to threaten the income of people who refuse to believe the same thing you do.  Damn radicals should have stayed off your lawn out of your town to begin with, eh?

Richard Dawkins so made this up, right? He ought to be ashamed of himself!

The price for being an a-hole: $180K

The would-be Quran burner, Terry Jones, is looking at a huge bill from the Gainesville Police for the security they provided during his three ring circus:

The Gainesville Police Department said it spent more than $100,000 while the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office spent an estimated $80,000 during the weekend of the planned demonstration.

"We have 286 sworn officers and almost everyone was working either at the Dove Center or at other soft targets," Senn said. "Unless you were sick or injured you were working" the day the burning was to take place.

Not sure they can do this (it’s their job to respond to such situations, right?), but I can’t say that I’m put out too much by it.

Texas to Islam: We’re on to You!

The Texas Board of Education is back to meddling again.  The target this time is Islam.

Why?

Because a failure to paint Muslims as wild-eyed jihadists from the darkest and deepest pit of hell come to kill white Christians us all consitutes a country wide conspiracy to paint Islam as ‘good’ and Christianity as ‘bad’.

Or something like that:

The resolution states that pro-Islamic, anti-Christian half-truths, selective disinformation and false editorial stereotypes “still roil” some social studies textbooks nationwide, including “sanitized definitions of ‘jihad’ that exclude religious intolerance or military aggression against non-Muslims … which undergirds worldwide Muslim terrorism.”

The fact that the books they cite as evidence are not in use in Texas? The fact that Texas shapes what textbooks are made available to the other states?  Those don’t mean a thing because “Middle Easterners” are buying into companies that publish textbooks:

Members of the board’s social conservative bloc asked for the resolution after an unsuccessful candidate for a board seat called on the panel to head off any bias against Christians in new social studies books. Some contend that “Middle Easterners” are increasingly buying into companies that publish textbooks.

I wonder when they’re going to call for a resolution to ban the word “racism” from dictionaries made available to Texas schoolchildren.

What’s with Rabbis here lately?

A “rabbinical advisor” to a Jewish group at Yale recently wrote in the Washington Post that atheism is one of the greatest threats to humanity.

He went on to bluntly state that an atheistic president would, not could, turn into a psychotic killer:

a leader who believes in nothing, or establishes a religion to serve himself or his state, becomes Hitler, Stalin, Mao or Pol Pot; who together murdered and starved over one hundred million human beings.

Now a rabbi has went on the Glenn Beck show and bluntly called us all parasites:

Dick Armey declares war on choice

Tea Partier Dick Armey has promised that should the Republicans regain a majority they will once again make it a priority to undermine reproductive healthcare for women.

After stating that social issues wouldn’t matter if the country became insolvent, he specifically referred to abortion stating (caution: there’s a video at the link that starts automatically):

“Since President Obama has been elected, there has been extraordinarily high levels of funding for international abortions through what is called the Mexico City language. That fight hasn’t been had for a few years. Now that fight will be had with this majority,” he said, referring to his stated expectation that Republicans will win control of the House, and perhaps the Senate. He added, “these issues are too important to be left behind and they won’t be left behind.”

The truce he was asked about is in reference to a statement by Governor Daniels of Indiana (possibly a presidential candidate for 2012) who stated that the next president would probably have to call a truce on social issues in order to focus on the economy.

France ‘overwelmingly’ opposes religious freedom

France has really stepped up the religious persecution, voting 246 to 1 in favour of banning Muslim women from wearing burqas in public.  If it’s not challenged within 10 days, it becomes law and Muslim women will face fines and/or imprisonment for being caught outside their homes in burqas.

As with the denial of religious status to Islam in Italy, women’s rights are again being misused to promote religious intolerance towards Muslims:

It is aimed at ensuring gender equality, women’s dignity and security, as well as upholding France’s secular values – and its way of life.

Really? A law that demands women dress in a manner that goes against their beliefs and/or desires or be punished is about the equality, dignity and security of those women?

Laughter sound bite

I don’t know about you, but I for one wasn’t born yesterday. This law is straight up bullshit and has nothing to do with the rights of women.  This cartoon sums what’s going on with Islam in the west very well.

Christianity’s Osama bin Laden: Arrested

Justin Carl Moose been arrested for his involvement in a plot to bomb a women’s health clinic:

A Concord man was charged with describing how to make explosives, in an effort to bomb an abortion clinic, after FBI agents found instructions on the man’s Facebook page and caught him in a sting, officials said Thursday.

The self-described “freedom” fighter used Facebook to call for violence against pretty much everyone, but mostly healthcare workers at women’s clinics. He also referred to himself as Christianity’s version of Osama bin Laden.

Vatican gets it’s anti-Muslim hate on

This anti-Muslim crap is getting nasty. Now the Vatican has decided to get explicitly racist about Muslims with a Vatican official complaining about the lack of births amongst native Christian Europeans.

According to Father Gheddo, Christians are going to loose Europe to Muslims because the Muslim immigrants are allegedly having more children than native Christians are:

The challenge must be taken seriously,” said Father Gheddo, of the Vatican’s Pontifical Institute for Foreign Missions.

“Certainly from a demographic point of view, as it is clear to everyone that Italians are decreasing by 120,000 or 130,000 persons a year because of abortion and broken families – while among the more than 200,000 legal immigrants a year in Italy, more than half are Muslims and Muslim families, which have a much higher level of growth.”

He said: “Newspapers and television programmes never speak of this. However, an answer must be given above all in the religious and cultural fields and in the area of identity.”

The reason they don’t speak of it is because it’s straight up racism. This is on top of anti-Muslim male bashing by Cardinal Policarpo last year and a call by Cardinal Biffi to turn away Muslim immigrants in favour of Catholics.

What to do with us pesky non-Jews

A rabbi in Israel wrote a book defending the murders of us non-Jews, whom the author describes as “uncompassionate by nature”, in order to curb our “evil inclinations”. The author also defends the intentional pre-meditated murder of babies.

What do you think some of his peers got together and did?  If you guessed “defended it, of course”, give yourself a cookie (via: Alternet):

Watching that video makes me grateful for my dad. He once showed up at the frontdoor with a loaded rifle in one hand. Why? He didn’t want members of our mother’s insane church on the property. Living with her was bad enough. Only the stars know what would’ve happened if he’d been a religious man.
