Running off Liberal Theists
Are god(s) mocking liberals running liberal theists into clutches of the Republicans? That appears to the point of a post by Olvlzl, You Don’t Have To Believe It….
Well, excuse my hostility, but Olvlzl and alleged liberals like him are blithering cowards who have the backbones of the common slug. Contrary to what Olzlvl may wish to believe, we atheists got our bad reputation not because of comments about demons on sticks, but because the forefathers of todays religionists called us evil and vile. Current religious leaders and followers throughout the land consistently slander us. As individuals we’ve been disowned, kicked-out, divorced, attacked, threatened and harassed. Why? We are atheists. Nothing more. Northing less.
We atheists are so reviled here in America that Godless is a favourite stand-by of the Republican party when it comes to smearing Democrats for a good twenty or thirty years now. Imagine that. A generic description of a group of people who account for approximately 10 percent of the nations population is an insult. One that must be denied in the same manner that one would deny bashing puppies in the head with bats. And everytime it happens, what do the liberal theists do?
They bash atheists while blaming us for the abuse we suffer at the hands of the religious wherein they also implicitly state that if we don’t shut the hell up and show them some respect - they’re going to start explicitly supporting the people who would deny us our consitutional and civil rights should they gain enough power.
A poster by the name of made the following comment on his blog and I agree with the sentiment as it perfectly captures the thrust of his post IMHO:
Also, black people should stop making jokes about white people, because it might make white people stop supporting racial equality. And gays should never, ever laugh at straights, because all those “breeder” jokes make us uncomfortable, and then we might decide that denying them their rights is totally peachy-creamy, since they were so snotty and ungrateful about it.
In fact, no member of any social/culture minority should ever crack a joke at the expense of their would-be/might-be political majority benefactors — even between themselves, no matter how uncomfortable it is to live in a society in which your identity and world-view work against you. Because you know, it only takes one sarcastic comment to change a dedicated, heartfelt liberal into a drooling, mouth-breathing fundamentalist Bush-voter.

With friends like Olvlzl, who needs enemies? Give me a foaming at the mouth religious wingnut any day of the week, but please spare me from the smiling hypocrite with a knife concealed behind his back.
