Don’t let the door hit you
Sixty-eight members of the Pakastini Parliament are threatening to walkout if Pakistan enacts the Criminal Law Amendment for Protection of Women. Why are they so pissed off that they’d quit their jobs?
The new laws (link) drop the requirement that a Muslim woman must produce four “pious” male witnesses should her attacker deny her charges. It also makes it a crime for adult male Muslims to have sexual relations with any female under the age of 16 in addition to other laws that will make being a Muslim woman in a Muslim country a bit easier such as recommending the death penalty for gang-rapes and a 25 year sentence for men caught trafficing women for the purpose of prostitution.
In short, Muslim women are finally becoming eligible for protection under secular laws as they should be. The fact that Muslim men are throwing tantrums and threatening to quit their jobs because Muslim women will be treated like human beings is nothing short of a direct blow to the propaganda that insists Islam is a religion of “peace”. A religion of peace doesn’t throw a fit when a certain segment of its own members are protected from absurd requirements that can result in a violent death.
