Rants Raves & Rages

Can you get a refund for a gift god gave you?

by Karen on August 20, 2008

Seriously!

A confident Barack Obama raised an extraordinary $7.8 million Sunday at three California fundraisers, most of it in large checks to a Democratic Party committee.

“I will win. Don’t worry about that,” he said to the crowd of about 1,300 at his third event of the evening, according to the pool report.

He was warmly received by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who called him “a leader that God has blessed us with at this time.”

Back in the day we progressives, liberals and Democrats used to vote against people who pulled this kind of crap.   Those days are apparently over.

I never thought I’d ever be in a position where I’d actually hate the Democratic nominee for president, but here I am.  I actively dislike Obama and want him to lose.  It’s kind of strange.  I’m used to hating Republicans and cheering for their loss.

I know, I know.  A loss for the Democrats in November will cause hellfire to rain down on America.  I don’t care. Maybe America needs some hellfire falling on it’s ass to snap it the hell out of this sickening obsession with religiosity on both sides of the political aisle.

One of the arguments for supporting the democratic nominee this fall is that a failure to put a democrat in office will result in the further erosion of reproductive freedom.

This argument annoys and angers me because 1) it’s fear-based and 2) democrats have been selling out women for years now. If there’s one thing Democrats have become quite consistent at it’s declaring the rights of women to be something “we” can afford to undermine.

The latest example is SB 776 in Michigan which was just passed 74-32 with 24 Democrats voting for it. It outlaws, on the state level, so-called “partial birth abortions”. There is no exemption for the health of the mother.

Yet, board after board, blog after blog, talking point after talking point insists that unless I vote Democrat this fall my rights as a woman will be eroded. That sound you just heard? That was me snorting at the preposterous idea that my rights as well as the rights/privileges of others will be protected by Democrats.

It’s become quite clear that when an election season rolls around, there isn’t any group/idea the Democrats won’t sell out in order to get/remain in power.

So until such time as the Democrats quit selling out women, gay people and a host of other groups/ideas – fuck them all. I will no longer be party too such a scam.

Religious kids are corrupt fools

by Karen on February 11, 2008

And it’s your fault American atheists. You’re a relatively powerless minority group that can’t so much as frown in the vicinity of a theist without being accused of personally plotting the assassination of every theist on the planet, but thanks to you there are millions of religious kids running around the country looking not to the cross but to Google for the latest shot of some starlet’s crotch when they ain’t entertaining thoughts of being a thug.

For example, look at the enormous growth in the last half century of genuine admiration of self-destructive lifestyles and behaviour. You can see it clearly by looking at the difference between traditional culture heroes and modern ones.

The Man Called Cash, for example, had his problems with drugs, but he wasn’t making records that called June a bitch and threatening to whack her around. He was divorced, but he wasn’t a deadbeat dad. And he didn’t celebrate his drug problems; he overcame them.

How times change! Entertainment media shamelessly cash in on today’s celebration of loser lifestyles in rap music.

Historically, this is highly unusual. There is nothing “natural” about exalting self-destructive, criminal lifestyles. It was more natural for my peers to admire Neil Armstrong and Terry Fox than for today’s teens to admire rappers and drunken celebs exposing their posteriors.

How did it come about? One direct cause is atheistic materialism as the defacto public religion.

How could you do this to those poor innocent little kids? You ought to be ashamed of yourselves for victimizing children of all things. Ashamed, I tell you!

The mocking of Miss America by pageant officials

January 26, 2008

There’s a new reality show in town and it’s goal is too mock the shit out of beauty contestants. When I first saw the promo I thought “well, that’s pretty nasty”. It now appears that the show mocks Miss America and is being run by the Miss America Organization in an attempt to “revamp” Miss [...]

Everybody run, the Christians are getting smarter

January 6, 2008

First they figured out that we members of the godless horde cannot be found in a church. Now they’ve went and figured out that we don’t expect to be pestered by ‘em on Sunday morning. I saw them walking about last week, but figured I was being paranoid due to lack of coffee.  So when [...]

If Christians in America are persecuted

January 4, 2008

Why can’t I stand at a public bus stop without someone telling me I need to take my daughter to church? Why have I been handed literature explaining how I need to get right with Jesus for simply entering/exiting a store, leaving a bar or just stepping onto a bus? Why do people sound surprised [...]

Pope takes shot at Gay people and their allies

January 1, 2008

Pope Benedict has given his address for the new year and wouldn’t you know it, he decided to take shots at gay people and their allies. According to him, we are threatening "the very foundation of peace" which is the "natural family".    It’s been a recurrent theme in a lot of his speeches this past [...]

Why God is either insane or non-existant

April 19, 2007

The young men above are carrying the remains of an unidentified Iraqi who was one of the 198 people murdered by a series of car bombs that took place in pre-dominantly Shiite areas of Iraq Wednesday. I am just a human and not a particularly nice one at times. I have no superpowers. I make [...]

I am an Atheist

June 18, 2006

I don’t kick puppies, torture cats or give babies dirty looks. I don’t hate the gods nor am I angry with them. I don’t worship Satan, Baal or any of the “bad” gods your religion supposes exists. I’m only angry when you, a theist, ticks me off with your ignorant arrogance. I am an atheist. [...]
