Got WordPress?

by Karen on March 4, 2009

If so, you may want to check out Referrer Detector, a plug-in for WordPress.  What does it do?

Once a page on your site is submitted to a social media site every one who arrives to that page from a link on that site is greeted with a customizable message encouraging them to up vote your page if they think it’s worth sharing.

I’ve only had it installed and operating for a few days now and I’m already seeing a slight change in the traffic.  Where most of my traffic has come from Stumblers, I’m now seeing Diggers and whatever people who use delicious are called showing up more often than they have in the past.

Of course, it helps if you have a convenient way for your readers to submit your site to begin with and for that I recommend ShareThis. I know. I no longer have ShareThis installed, but I have a perfectly valid reason for recommending it.

My theme is Thesis and thanks to SugarRae, I was able to customize it to display links to social sites without needing a plug-in nor having to dig through theme files.

And with that, I bid you good day (or night).

According to BlogThings, here’s what we’re having tomorrow says about me:

What Your Thanksgiving Meal Says About You

When it comes to the holidays, you are traditional with a twist. You do things a bit differently, and you’ve established your own traditions.

You see the holidays as a time to think about what’s important to you. It’s a good time to reflect and regroup.

You like the more adult aspects of the holidays – parties, cocktails, and having time off from work.

During the holidays, you are likely to feel generous. At your worst, you feel exhausted.

You consider yourself a real red blooded American, and you’re proud of it.

You tend to spend your holidays doing everything and anything. You really get into the holiday spirit.

Me? Traditional? I didn’t know traditional came in flaming liberal feminist colours. And I was quite unaware that that I not only considered myself a “real red blooded American” (WTF does that even mean? Do the French have green blood or something?), but was ‘proud of it” too seeing as I think patriotism is just another word for fascism and is a kind of faith not too far removed from religious faith.

I obviously have a split personality, no?

Fugly!

November 2, 2008

For reasons I now regret I decided to install the beta version of WordPress.  My opinion? It’s fucking ugly: It’s too damn busy on the right and that menu thingy on the left is just plain nasty.  Changing the interface is one thing, but striving to make it plain fucking ugly?  WordPress deserves an award [...]

Not banned in China

October 28, 2008

This might be a fluke, but it looks like I can no longer claim to have been banned in China. From my Woopra Geo Overlay: I have never gotten any traffic from China & my site was blocked the last time I checked. Now I’m getting much more traffic from Asia, Africa & the ‘middle [...]

She calls me Max

October 13, 2008

And it’s a very good thing that I’m cute, because with all the foot biting, arm gnawing, leg chewing and plant digging I do when I’m not trying to take on the neighbour’s Pomeranian, it’s a wonder a particular resident of the house I’ve adopted hasn’t evicted my little orange butt. Did I mention I [...]

Intense Debate

October 13, 2008

Earlier this year I signed up for Intense Debate (ID), but never got around to installing it here.  Now one of my favourite blogs has installed it so I figured what the hell and installed it this morning.  The last 500 or so comments have been imported.  The rest weren’t imported and won’t be shown [...]

Obama’s whose candidate?

September 9, 2008

Am I the only one who thinks Hillary’s face has had at least a decade photoshopped off her face? It just doesn’t look right and I swear they’ve made her whiter too.  Then again, I could just need more coffee this morning, but still…

Atheists have no rights in Chicago

April 7, 2008

Just ask Representative Monique Davis, a Democrat mind you, who recently went off on Rob Sherman as he was speaking before the House State Government Administration Committee about the governor’s recent grant of $1 million to a Baptist church. Representative Davis had this to say: …it’s dangerous for our children to even know that your [...]
