They’re already mad at him for trying to stand up to the personification of the angry white man, Rush Limbaugh.  I highly doubt they’re going to like what he said in an interview with GQ (via Think Progress) about abortion:

GQ: Are you saying you think women have the right to choose abortion?

STEELE: Yeah. I mean, again, I think that’s an individual choice. […]

He goes on to state that Roe vs. Wade should be overturned on a technicality & that uterus control should be be localized which is par for the course.

However, the Rethugs have firmly planted themselves besides the professional Christian organizations that believe every sperm is sacred. They are so not going to like this.

He’s lifted the ban on embryonic stem cell research, is working on revoking the conscientious objector clause for medical personnel and he’s also established a new post in the state department for international women’s issues (source):

US President Barack Obama announced Friday the creation of a new foreign policy position designed to tackle global women’s issues.

Obama named Melanne Verveer, an aide in former president Bill Clinton’s administration, as ambassador-at-large for international women’s issues. She will serve at the State Department under Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

The appointment, which has to be approved by the Senate, “is unprecedented and reflects the elevated importance of global women?s issues to the president and his entire administration,” the White House said in a statement.

He will also be signing an executive order that will establish a White House Council on Women and Girls (source):

“The mission of the Council will be to provide a coordinated federal response to the challenges confronted by women and girls to ensure that all Cabinet and Cabinet-level agencies consider how their policies and programs impact women and families,” reads a memo describing the move and obtained by The Fix.

We’ve needed both for quite some time and I’m absolutely delighted to see this happening. Maybe the world will be a bit different by the time my daughter is my age. I sure hope so.

Because women are stupid, that’s why.

February 27, 2009

Upon hearing that South Carolina has passed a bill requiring a 24 waiting period between forcing a woman to get an ultrasound and letting her get an abortion one may pause to wonder why.
One may also take the time to read the words in blue above the body of this post for the answer.

Reproductive loons admit it’s not about the babies

February 24, 2009

Public funding of family planning services prevents around 1.9 million unintended pregnancies, 860K unintended births, 810K abortions and 270K miscarriages each year, saving the United States billions of dollars in medical expenses (source).
Thus it makes sense that, no matter which side of the abortion debate we fall on as individuals, people are provided the services [...]

You’re doing it wrong, Texas

February 13, 2009

When a man admits that he did in fact use his position as county sheriff to rape a woman, you put them in jail ASAP.
You do not let them enjoy a three month break between admitting guilt and being imprisoned just as he threatened his victim with if she didn’t comply!!  I don’t care [...]

The future of abortion in America?

December 24, 2008

Below is a video of an Irish women named Louise talking about her abortion interspersed with commentary about the state of reproductive freedom in Ireland.  In short, there is none.
Contraception was only made legal in the mid 1980s and is still quite expensive. Abortion is outlawed in both the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland. [...]

Is it right to call gay the new black?

December 7, 2008

Just thought I’d share this discussion about members of the gay community adopting the slogan “Gay is the new Black”.

Personally, I think the slogan goes a bit too far and “disappears” black members of the LBGT community.

Another myth about abortion exposed as lie

December 4, 2008

Since most opponents of reproductive freedom and choice don’t have a reasonable leg to stand on they’ve often resorted to plain old lying to women in order to roll back the law on abortion.  One their lies is that women who have an abortion are at serious risk of developing something they call “post abortion [...]

It’s a bird! It’s a plane! It’s girl cooties!

December 3, 2008

I’ve said it time and again that religion is no friend to women nor any man who is not personally offended that he entered this world via a vagina.
As evidence I’d like to point ya’ll towards this post by Nullfidian about a toy for the children of Catholics born with the only genitalia acceptable [...]
