Dole staffer explains Godless ad

Back in October of last year then senator of North Carolina Elizabeth Dole was behind in the polls and did what any Republican politician would do in her spot.  She went on the attack.

Her method of attack was to ‘expose’ the fact that she had caught her challenger Kay Hagan not just associating with atheists, but taking money from atheists.  After a press release failed to garner much, if any, attention, she and her crew decided to release what’s become known as the Godless ad (viewable here).

We Are Atheist. Resistance will be Ignored.

banana_suicide Or something like that. Claiming to be about the “anti-religion agenda” on the social sites Digg, Reddit and YouTube, all this article really does is provide evidence that atheists use social sites and that Digg seems to be dominated by atheists.

But, that’s the kind assessment.  The unkind assessment is that it’s yet more “evidence” of the persecution suffered by Christians at the hands of atheists on Digg with the help of atheists on other sites.

For starters, what do those awful atheist Diggers do in service to the “anti-religion agenda”? They laugh at things like pictures of Jesus riding a dinosaur and make submissions about anti-atheist bigotry such as the one I wrote about last year and Elizabeth Dole’s recent anti-atheist ads front page news on Digg.

And for reasons that may be related to their quest to destroy religion these awful atheistic Diggers don’t appear to appreciate things they’re not interested in.  Studies obviously need to be done in order to determine why this is so.

The one’s on YouTube may be worse though because there are 124,000 hits when you search for ‘atheist’ on the site. Some of these atheists may have even put up videos where they criticized Christianity.  The horror!

And those ones on Reddit?  They liked Jesus Christ: Vampire Hunter and if wasn’t for them Vampire Jesus would’ve never made his debut on Digg much to the delight of those atheists that control Digg.

Scary, huh?

Of course, no article about evil, evil atheists would be complete without a “expert” on the ways of atheism.

“Just as religious people want to convert people to their perspective, atheist people want to convert people to their point of view,” Winston said. “The irony here is that atheism is a form of religion. You’re still in something.”

I suppose she deserves points for not explicitly using it as a slam on atheists as other of her kind are prone to do, but just the same. How many times can one say this and not realize the sheer ignorance of calling a disbelief a religion?  Does she also agree that eating meat is a form of vegetarianism?

The only question left is, why is a article about atheists utilizing the Internet accompanied by a picture of a religious leader standing on some rocks taking a picture?  I don’t know about you, but I kind of think it was such a ridiculous article, the poor person stuck having to pick a photo had a brain fart.

Shorter Hagan: I am not a devil!

red_devil Elizabeth Dole has apparently stepped up her hateful rhetoric and released yet another ad about her opponent Kay Hagan that’s made some waves.

The ad shows Ellen Johnson and Dave Silvermann of the Godless PAC run by American Atheists making statements in support of the separation of church(es) and state.  Interspersed throughout it is footage of Kay Hagan attending a fundraiser hosted by members of the Godless PAC.

A woman’s voice talks about how Hagan snuck off to the fundraiser and accepted political donations from atheists.  At the end the voice asks what Hagan promised in return for the money. The implication is that she promised to support their efforts to keep the wall of separation intact.

I was a bit sympathetic at first, then I read Kay Hagan’s response and my sympathy snorted and decided to go have a beer.  She’s decided to go with the idea that Elizabeth Dole is attacking her character.

How is she attacking her character?  By accusing her of actually supporting the first amendment religious rights of all Americans?  Nope.  Hagan’s went with the idea that Dole called her an atheist and she considers that to be an act of slander.

Let’s get right to it. Elizabeth Dole should absolutely be ashamed of herself. I don’t know what things were like when she grew up in North Carolina, but the North Carolina I was raised in would NEVER condone this kind of personal slander. I can’t begin to tell you how upset I am that she has attacked my Christian faith.

The problem with this is that you slander people by stating they are and/or have done something others will consider to reflect poorly on their character.  Hagan could have went after the real message of the ad which “accuses” Hagan of actually supporting the wall between church(es) and state.

But no, she decided that Dole had impugned her character by implying that she is an atheist and said so. Know what that means? Hagan is nothing more than another cowardly democrat who’s not only willing to let bigotry get a pass, but will participate in it herself if it suits her goals.

Because get it through your head – she didn’t just say Dole was wrong in calling her an atheist. She called it slander and a personal attack.   The implication is that there is something wrong with being an atheist and all people of good character should react like the witch in the Wizard of Oz did when Dorothy throws water in her face.

Personally, I’m still listed as a member of a Baptist church back in Mississippi.  It annoys me because they all know I’m an atheist, but I do not consider the implication that I still believe in Jesus to be slander nor a personal attack.  It’s just a lie.  Nothing more, nothing less.

Hagan could’ve chosen that path.  She didn’t though.  She chose to go for the sympathy vote of bigots.

Atheists under fire by Dole campaign

What began as a press release has become a major point in Elizabeth Dole’s campaign for reelection in North Carolina.  Dole has now sent a flyer to voters in North Carolina attacking  Kay Hagan’s character and values for daring to associate with atheists.

According to Dole’s campaign we are the “most vile, radical liberals in America”. Our crimes include:

  • supporting atheist politicians
  • removing religious phrases from public oaths
  • forcing the BSA into accepting gay and godless members
  • removing all references to the Christian god from public
  • trying to eliminate Christmas.

This isn’t just an anonymous attack either.  The Dole campaign specifically targets Adam of Daylight Atheism and Hemant Mehta of Friendly Atheist, both of whom have written about Dole’s initial press release.
