Dogma doesn’t equal ideas? Hey, I’m an atheist, too, but you can’t just define away a problem. Religious dogma is ideas. Maybe bad ideas, but ideas for sure. And many, many people don’t see it as bad ideas. If we’re to have a chance in this “war,” we’re going to have to convince them these ideas are bad. Insult is not the way to do it. When you slap people, they’ll just think you don’t have any good ideas .
I think you need to come to terms with the fact that some of us atheists are not nice and will slap the shit out of any theist who wants to take a swing at us.
Karen…that is the point I am making, after 30 years as an atheist…beginning with being scared shitless as a child in Sunday School and told I was going to be “burned in hell forever” if I didn’t believe in jesus. Just that morning, I burned my finger on the stove and it still hurt….so I was scared out of my mind as a 5 year old child when I heard this crap…and believed for years I was going to be tortured and “burned” for all eternity.
It took me another 35 years, and a PhD and the ability to think and reason to get rid of religious blackmail, extortion, threats and self hate…..and now I am gunning for them. The xians and all religions deserve to be slapped back into the 15th century…for many, many reasons, including oppressing and destroying knowledge causing civilization to be 2000 years behind. Gawd damn them to their imaginary hell.
“Everyone must leave something behind when he dies, my grandfather said. A child or a book or a painting or a house or a wall built or a pair of shoes made. Or a garden planted. Something your hand touched some way so your soul has somewhere to go when you die, and when people look at that tree or that flower you planted, you’re there.
It doesn’t matter what you do, he said, so long as you change something from the way it was before you touched it into something that’s like you after you take your hands away. The difference between the man who just cuts lawns and a real gardener is in the touching, he said. The lawn cutter might just as well not have been there at all; the gardener will be there a lifetime.” — Fahrenheit 451

Mike,

Sorry. Not buying it. All I’m seeing is emotional reactionism.
Not buying what, Mike?
