If thy left hand offend thee, sit on it
The Jews banned pig from the menu and the Christians suggested self mutilation in order to escape offending themselves. So, what’s a Muslim to do?
Why state the devil uses his left hand to eat and drink with and thus forbid each other from eating and drinking with their respective left hands.

The first thing I thought of was my mother and her sister – both left-handers and both religious zealots. Not too sure about the sister who’d usually choose death over embarrassment, but if my mother was alive and Christianity made such a claim, I could see her sitting on her left hand. She did, after all, decide that any one who wasn’t a Baptist was plain evil after years of not liking Baptists because they called every one else evil.
Back in the early ’60s when I was a toddler, my parents’ favorite babysitter was a wonderful old Slovakian Christian woman who’d immigrated to the U.S. many years previously. She was the perfect babysitter in most respects, but she was most insistent about trying to break me of being left-handed. She and my Mother had a serious row about it, and I almost lost my best baby-sitter. Finally she gave in. But her major concern, and the reason why she was so insistent, was that she believed it was inviting evil to be left-handed.
