A church over in Shreveport, Louisiana recently decided to have an old fashioned book burning which was picked up by the local news.
Nothing new, really. Small Christian communities do it all the time here in the south it seems. In fact, there’s a church about 30 minutes north of here that should be doing it’s annual book burning any day now.
What I wanted to share was a quote by the guy who led it over on one of the news sites in response to a commenter.
Bless you…I am James the director. Now, Dixiechick, God’s rules are timeless…I do not think people are too stupid to think for themselves. But if they think for themselves they are choosing the path of least resistance that leads to ignorance and the Bible says God’s people perish for lack of knowledge. Then He sends people who love Him and His creation enough to wake them up. I love you!
Now, personally, I’d say the “path of least resistance” is actively choosing to not think for oneself. That’s how you end up truly ignorant. That’s how you end up standing around a fire watching, perhaps even participating, in the destruction of a book you probably haven’t even read but “know” is evil because your leader told you it was.

The kid in the middle looks a bit upset that his bed time stories are to be heard no more

BTW, “James the director” appears to be Pastor James Crawford of the International House of Prayer … the guy in the photo waving his magical hand over the mystical flames

** nihilistic xian values born of unceasing resentment **
For 2,000 years one hallmark of xianity has remained its hatred of natural science and sceptical philosophy. The Stoics and Epicureans of Athens laughed at Paul of Tarsus when he spoke to them. Paul’s anti-intellectual rejoinder is still holy writ:
20-Where is the wise man? Where is the scholar? Where is the philosopher of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? 21-For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not know him, God was pleased through the foolishness of what was preached to save those who believe. 22-Jews demand miraculous signs and Greeks look for wisdom, 23-but we preach Christ crucified: a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles . . . . 1Cor1 20-23 NIV
In short, Paul and his fellow revenge seekers created a god sharing their nihilistic valuations.
27-But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. 28-He chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things—and the things that are not—to nullify the things that are . . . . 1Cor1:26-28 NIV
Xianity still appeals to those who believe themselves mistreated. To those in whom resentment surges. To those who must punish their guilty selves. To those who must blame others.
Xianity is practical nihilism. Directed inward, hatred of self. Directed outward, hatred of others and the world.
This is not some peripheral ideological stance — it is the dark heart and sick soul of Paul’s life-negating world view, tarted up as a religion of “love”.

Thinking is the path of least resistance? I guess that explains some of the test scores – they must be encouraging the kids to try harder and not think. Preaching ignorance, esteeming blind acceptance of authority figures – sure sounds like religion to me.

Seriously? Like…really? I’m amazed….not so much surprised that some christian conservatives are burning books but the simple fact anyone else with that low an IQ even exists today. Seriously I knew this other guy that did that….what’s his name?….oh yeah, HITLER! Of course they don’t want you to be informed cause with any sense at all any slightly intelligent person would see christianity for what it truly is, a way to control mass amounts of people. Jesus tap dancing christ this is a sad day truly it is. Once again a small portion of idiots are showing the south’s ass.

What sort of books do they BURN? (A religious organisation I had dealings with threw out in the trash “Huckleberry Finn” and various books on spiritualism.) It all makes me think of A. Hitler and his merry men…

We need to rid the world of these archaic stone age myths and organizations (like church). Backwards hate mongers. And remember, they’re teaching this to their children.
