What happens if God strikes himself dead?

by Karen on February 12, 2008

Growing up in the southern US one of the phrases I heard and still repeat myself sometimes is “may God strike me dead”. It was/is a way of communicating that one is not lying no matter how far fetched the story might be.

If you were lying, God was supposed to take you out with a well aimed bolt of lightening. I don’t recall him ever doing it to anyone I knew, but he’s apparently went and struck himself with one.

There’s a question we must now ask ourselves. Does that mean Jesus was lying when he claimed to be God?
