Speaking to supporters in New York last night Hillary had this special thanks to say:
I want to thank all my friends and family, particularly my mother, who was born before women could vote and is watching her daughter on this stage tonight.
My mother was born in the early 1940s, but her mother was born in the early 1900s and was already a mother when the 19th Amendment was ratified. She died back in the 80s when I wasn’t much more than a child, but I do remember her talking about her marriage to my grandfather once.
It was a pretty good description of Hell. Not thinking much of it I asked her why she had stayed with him as our mother had left our biological father when I was, at the most, a toddler.
I’ve never forgotten what she said. “That’s what you did back then, but you girls don’t have to do that anymore. You can leave.”
I wonder what she would think about Hillary Clinton being a serious contender for the presidential spot.

Nice post. We’ve got a long way to go to attain full gender equality, but it’s good to be reminded so poignantly of how far we’ve come in a relatively short time.
