One of the selling points for Christianity is that god protects his followers from the evils that allegedly plague the planet. He watches over them like a vigilant father ready to do battle to protect his children. There’s only one problem.
Christianity states that their god made all things thus God/Daddy created evil and all things that are considered “evil” such as the devil.
This point was recently brought home by The Littlest Atheist over on Freethunk.
The series focuses on a atheistic child and one of the latest issues has him bugging out about his closet being left open at night. Trying to calm him his mother (a theist of some sort) tells him God will protect him.
Bertrand shoots back “Doubtful. Isn’t God the one who created the monster in the closet?”
His mother just walks out the door, because well….God can’t be both a protector from evil and the creator of evil without some serious character flaws.

And that is why theology exists- the bury the problem in a pile of meaningless jargon.
This is particularly glaring contradiction. With this and maybe 20,000 others, it seems their belief would crumble just a little; I guess not, thats what keeps the debate fun.
*sigh…*
The problem with that comic in particular is the fact that the mother instead of simply telling that child that there was NO monster in his closet, decided to tell him a blatant lie and say that God will protect him from the monster in the closet. If she had cleared that up for him, he wouldn’t have had to ask that question in the first place, being that God had created no closet monster for him to be afraid of in the first place.
I would first like to point out the fact, that there are many people who seem to confuse pain for evil.
In the verse Psalm 121:7, it does not say that God will protect us from all pain. All it plainly says is “The Lord will keep you safe from all evil; he will take care of your soul.” Our souls and our bodies are two different things, and I’m pretty sure that verse was referring to the Lord protecting our eternal souls from Hell after we accept him, being that our souls are the very core of who we are anyway… but you know, that’s just me. Obviously God’s not protecting us from death, since if that were evil we’d be living for eternity wouldn’t we? If we’re not protected from death, the one thing humanity seems to fear more than anything else, then what makes us think that it’s reasonable to expect automatic immunity of anything ever bad happening to you while you’re still here? Anything that happens to you in real life can never be as bad as Hell anyway, so what does that even matter (yes, if you haven’t figured it out by now, I am a person of faith).
Also, why should we need a constant babysitter spoiling us from the truth of how horrible this world really is anyway? Shouldn’t we as humans be smart enough to just do something about it instead of hiding away and pretending it doesn’t exist?
Not only that, but God doesn’t manipulate what goes on in the world anyway, people do. Complete dominion over this planet was given to us, so whatever ‘evils’ happen here is humanity’s fault to begin with. “Oh but… why did God do that if he KNOOOWWWSSSSS everything? If he KNOOOOWWWSSSSS everything then wouldn’t he have reigned over the earth and taken control of everyone’s lives?”
Right… because that’s the perfect description of an all-loving God. Since he knows everything then don’t you think he knows what he’s doing? Don’t you think there’s an explanation for why he’s allowing all of this?
But anyway, onto part two of my argument:
“But, but… God created SATAN so he must be evil!”
No, God created Lucifer. Lucifer created satan. God gave him the gift of free will, and he abused it, thinking he was somehow better than God, so he decided to declare a meaningless war that he inevitably lost humiliatingly, and was stripped of all of his power and sent to live on earth, along with the idiotic former servants of God who deluded themselves into thinking they could overrun God.
But anyway… Honestly I don’t know if Lucifer was always evil, nor do I know absolutely everything there is to know about the Bible, or Christian or Atheist literature. I’m more or less trying to convey a point, and trying to get you all to actually think, instead of base your opinion of the validity of the Bible on some comic strip.
Sorry NOYBWNI, but you’ve missed the point of the cartoon. God is credited with creating everything – this includes “evil” things by default be they called “Lucifer” or “Ebola” or “Ted Bundy”.
The potter is always responsible for what the clay becomes and if that clay becomes a threat to others and the potter knew such would happen but continues to mold the clay into that thing, then the potter is, at the very least, of questionable character. Blaming the clay is and will always be an absurd notion.

Please proof or submit at least supporting scriptures because this is hogwash.
