Just about the time you think the world couldn’t make you more ill to the stomach, along comes someone like Maged Thabet Al-Kholidy who recently authored a piece defending the practice of attacking women for (allegedly) religious reasons. His wish was to explain why men have a valid reason, if not an inescapable duty, to use violence against the women in their lives.
His main complaint is that various human rights groups are encouraging women in Muslim majority countries to make formal complaints against male relatives who physically assault them. Maged declares these statements to be “amazing” and then ducks behind the Koran so he can (probably) claim religious persecution when he gets thrashed over the article.
The fact though is if you ignore the religious rambling and his pretty pathetic attempts to equate men being embarrassed with women being physically assaulted, this valid reason he never quite states is actually pretty simple.
Maged thinks he and his fellow men are superior to women simply because they are male humans. It’s inconceivable to him that women have the social standing to bring charges against the male members of their societies because we are inferior. It’s like a dog demanding someone arrest his caretaker for hitting him on a nose with a rolled up newspaper.
So what we have here is not stone age savagery, but what happens when corruptive religion meets it’s cousin – the corrupter of religion. The Koran, like other holy books, puts women in a “less than” position. Certain modern men realize this, decide it means “I can’t beat my bitch if I want” and the same men will turn around and use the less than verses as evidence that women are inferior because if we weren’t, “why would God Himself clearly prescribe less than roles for us?”.
It’s an unwinnable situation and one women should boycott on principle alone.
