I am becoming more and more convinced that lying is an important part of some christians identity. Over and above the obvious discrepancies in the bible, I think that many christians view lying as a means to an end (we seem to have arrived as a culture at a point where the means (torture, lying) justify the ends (winning the war on terror (or at least the war on progressives))). If lying discredits an enemy, it is for the greater glory of god. If lying brings in a convert, it is for the greater glory of god. If lying makes me (the christian) feel better about myself, no problem, jesus will forgive me when I use my get out of hell free card.
