Mao, Stalin and Hitler, Oh My!

by Karen on July 4, 2007

Another day, another Christian who can’t get through an article about us big bad atheists picking on the poor little Christians without a reference to the Evil Triplets. What did we do this time? Well, we got upset about the SCOTUS decision that said the president can spend taxpayer money on religious organizations and that taxpayers can do nothing about it.

How did McDonnell spin it? Why we hate Christianity, pick on it for no good reason and (stop me if you heard this before) don’t want to admit that the Christian god does in fact exist.

The atheists and agnostics who are so furious about God, religious people, and faith-based charities are simply bent on not seeing the obvious truth which is that, whatever they may think of those people who are “deluded” by religion, we “deluded” are generous, noble, hearted, fair, and above all?quite capable of helping people without preaching to them.

Perhaps they’re afraid of acknowledging that religious people can be kind and organized because it comes too close to acknowledging that there is a kind and organized God in the universe.

I’m very sure there are generous, noble, kind-hearted and fair Christians out there under a rock somewhere. McDonnell is not one of them. In fact, she’s just another Christian bigot. Yes, bigot. You don’t have to be a white American Christian male to be a bigot but it does help if you want to make your bigotry the law of the land.Christian Persecution

Alas, it doesn’t end there. McDonnell has another article up. In fact, it was this latest article that sent me to the first one. What’s the point of the second article? If you’re an atheist, especially a white one, and you’ve brought up the oppression of black people by Christians and Christian organizations which was defended by the Christians with their special book in response to absurd claims about Christianity by a person of color, you might be a racist.

This actually ticks me off more than the implied atheism equals murder of the first article. We Americans have a hard time dealing with the implicit racism of our society. Bullshit accusations like this make it harder because I can’t think of a better way to shut down the hearing apparatus of a white person than to accuse them of being ‘racist’ because they bring up something that is quite valid given the context.

Of course, the article is somewhat of an example of how Christians are hijacking the valid anti-christian_bigotrylanguage of oppression to stop criticism of themselves, their beliefs and their religion. It’s now “racist” to bring up how racism and Christianity have long walked hand in hand? When will it be “sexist” to bring up how sexism and Christianity have also been long time lovers when some Christian claims Christianity is the best thing to ever happen to women? Today? Tomorrow? Some future date?

UK Bishop: God’s going to drown you

by Karen on July 3, 2007

Bishops in the Church of England recently admitted that God has attacked England.

One diocesan bishop has even claimed that laws that have undermined marriage, including the introduction of pro-gay legislation, have provoked God to act by sending the storms that have left thousands of people homeless.

While those who have been affected by the storms are innocent victims, the bishops argue controversially that the flooding is a result of Western civilisation’s decision to ignore biblical teaching.

Translation: God attacked members of the majority heterosexual community in order to provoke a fear-based revocation of all rights and privileges currently afforded to the minority gay community of England. God will continue such attacks until survivors get it through their heads that “If God doesn’t like it and the Henchmen of God agree, it must die”.
