Be careful about who you kiss in India

I recently wrote about the controversy surrounding Richard Gere’s antics at a AIDS awareness event in India. At the time, various groups of Hindus were protesting in the streets and calling for Gere’s death.

Now it seems that arrest warrants have been issued for both Richard Gere and Shilpa Shetty for “public obscenity”.

Judge Dinesh Gupta issued the warrants in the north-western city of Jaipur following an official complaint from a member of the public about the display of affection last week between the 57-year-old Hollywood star and Shetty, 31, the Press Trust of India reported.

This is just stupid through and through.

"People who advocate freedom, yet deprecate agitation, are people who want crops without plowing the ground. They want rain without the awful roar of the thunder and lightning.

Without struggle, there is no progress. This struggle might be a moral one. It might be a physical one. It might be both moral and physical, but it must be a struggle.

Power concedes nothing without a demand. It never did and it never will. People may not get all that they pay for in this world, but they certainly pay for all that they get." ~ Frederick Douglas

  1. Chill guys. In a country of about a billion people and hundreds of towns and cities a few dozen rascals go out burning effigies on the streets of no more than four towns and the media there screams ‘ The Kiss that Shocked India ‘ or - ” Protests Rock India ” . Indians including Shilpa Shetty ( the actress in question ) didn’t care much about it. And please stop asking people to respect our ‘ conservative ‘ culture. We ain’t no Saudi Arabia. We gave the world the Kamasutra, the sculptures of Khajuraho, the raunchy Bollywood movies and the annual Kingfisher Swimsuit Calendar ( scantier clothed models than those in Victoria’s Secret’s calendar )
