Humility is not a Christian virtue
In the interview with Richard Dawkins Bill O’Reilly made a statement that annoys me. He stated that being humble was a Christian virtue. I don’t know about ya’ll guys, but when I look up humble in a dictionary, it does not say “making claims or pretensions to superior importance or rights; overbearingly assuming; insolently proud†under humble. It does, however, state that under “arrogant“.
And what can be more arrogant than believing (amongst other things):
- Humans are not the product of evolution, but the special creation of a far superior being.
- Humans are not subject to death as are other lifeforms, but are immortal.
In fact, one of the best ways to make their heads spin around is to insist that they are related to apes. Most refuse to accept evolution especially as it relates to humans. In fact an entire industry is built around proving that humans are not related to any other life form on the planet. Even the non-supremacists have to add ‘but I believe my god played a silent role’ when admitting they don’t believe humans were created as-is.
And death being the end with no continuation, no replay, no do-over? One might as well crack them in the face with a 2X4. Death is an insult. Yes, there is fear there but have you ever really listened to what they say? They simply cannot accept that a human of all things is subject to death. It’s not fair that humans die. Humans should not die. Humans are special.
These are not humble beliefs. They’re the purest form of arrogance one can find.
