PERA to be voted on..
Back in June the Secular Coalition alerted us to the Public Expression of Religion Act (PERA) which will effectively shut down all attempts to uphold the Establishment Clause by making it too expensive to bring such suits by barring the collection of fees and costs. Now it seems that PERA is coming out of commitee and will be voted on soon.
This bill only applies to those seeking to stop the melding of god and government, but not those seeking to meld the two.
What this means in the real world is not only will we atheists be effectively barred from challenging allegedly “non-sectarian” prayers, but so will Protestants in Catholic Country and the Catholics in Jesus Land as well as the stray Christian that ends up on the short end of the god stick somewhere.
This bill is bad for all of us and I encourage everyone to contact their respective representatives iabout defeating the rights latest attempt to stop anyone from challenging them.
