10 Reasons Why Gay Marriage Will Ruin Society
- Being gay is not natural. Real Americans ™ always reject unnatural things like eyeglasses, polyester, and air conditioning.
- Gay marriage will encourage people to be gay, in the same way that hanging around tall people will make you tall.
- Legalizing gay marriage will open the door to all kinds of crazy behavior. People may even wish to marry their pets because a dog has legal standing and can sign a marriage contract.
- Straight marriage has been around a long time and hasn’t changed at all; women are still property, blacks still can’t marry whites, and divorce is still illegal.
- Straight marriage will be less meaningful if gay marriage were allowed; the sanctity of Britany Spears’ 55-hour just-for-fun marriage would be destroyed.
- Straight marriages are valid because they produce children. Gay couples, infertile couples, and old people shouldn’t be allowed to marry because our orphanages aren’t full yet, and the world needs more children.
- Obviously gay parents will raise gay children, since straight parents only raise straight children.
- Gay marriage is not supported by religion. In a theocracy like ours, the values of one religion are imposed on the entire country. That’s why we have only one religion in America.
- Children can never succeed without a male and a female role model at home. That’s why we as a society expressly forbid single parents to raise children.
- Gay marriage will change the foundation of society; we could never adapt to new social norms. Just like we haven’t adapted to cars, the service-sector economy, or longer life spans.

Excellent post! Thank God for blogs. Someone in this country has got to tell it like it is. You’ve done that well, here.
I’ve always loved that list.
I posted it on my blog a couple years ago and wound up getting emails both from people who didn’t bother to read it and thought that I was against gay marriage and people who did read it and applauded me for being “anti-gay”, as well as from people who thought I’d written it. Sigh.
I appreciate the concern here and I don’t support gay marriage politically, but I think our hypocrisy as a whole has already ruined society. Christians are the salt and light of the world. Without us there is no true advocacy for moral restraint. Our lack of love for each other causes people to turn a deaf ear to us and this is the merely the outcome of those deaf ears.
Brad
Came through on BlogMad. Loved the list. Haven’t laughed like that for a couple of days, so, “thanks!”
I think the list forgot something, if gay couples adopt kids and try to raise them, imagine the torture these kids would get from bullies accross the world. The kids would get a hell of beating once everyone know they were adopted by gay parents. I think these people should think about the kids too. Life is not gonna be easy for them.
Anyway, truly great list, wish they had more of these.
To Paolo and Brad,
Maybe you should read this again.
Can you spell H U M O R??????
It’s NOT about being against Gay Marriage.
I always loved this one! Paolo, I know book learning may not be your thing, but take a closer look at the list there buddy. ![]()
Excellent list although sadly wasted on exactly the kind of people who need to understand it. Oh well, we can keep trying :o)
Women never used to be able to vote either…
it’s amazing to me that people who read this and say “yeah he’s right, gays suck” know how to use a computer. i’m hoping these are just misguided 12 year olds, if not, too bad, huh?
there’s a lot of this misunderstood humor at http://www.blackpeopleloveus.com
it gets pretty funny
I stumbled upon this page and first I was shocked. Thinking :”Okay it is the USA, but they can not mean this?” …
but then releaved to notice that they didn’t
let love rule
straight from belgium…
After reading these comments, my thought is that for those who don’t get the “10 Reasons” above, the light’s are just a bit dim. Too bad an intelligence requirement for getting married poses other problems.
Excellent compilation of American hypocrisy. My only beef with the gays are the parades, its not the best way to get support for your cause cause it pisses of every driver in lower manhattan and I’ve seen it make people who are neutral about gay marriages oppose them out of sheer annoyance.
P.S. What the F*** is wrong with “broken messenger” aka Brad. Christians are the salt and light of this world? Are you serious man, im not anti-Christian or anything but that is a very, very bold statement to make. Christians are the advocacy for moral restraint huh? What about the brutal crusades, inquisitions, murdering of thousands of scientists and architects. The Christian onslaught on scientists has been calculated to have put our technological world 200 years behind. Imagine where we’d be right now if Christians had murdered them.
Yep, gay alimony is a concept with a real future! I admire the way gay folks took the social baggage out of getting laid, but I must ask - along with the overwhelming majority of my straight and divorced male bretheren - Are you peeple crazy?
As we’ve got some gay friends (an American couple that moved to Amsterdam so they could marry) who have just adopted a lucky orphan kid from Latin America… I’ve got to post one that attempts to counter-balance Paulo…
* Clearly, it’s just not right to pair a poor orphan with two gay, wealthy, and caring parents because, well, they’re gay. Better to leave the kid poor and hungry — it’s sure to build character.
Well, this post is certainly popular. You stumblers have managed to shut the site down twice in one day - so congrats.
Now to address a few commenters:
Broken Messenger: The salt and light of the world? I kindly suggest that you obtain a dictionary and look up the word “arrogant”.
Paolo: Surely you jest? Yes, kids can be mean little shits - if parents (aka the adults) let them. If you’re worried about what your kids are going to do the kid of a gay couple - you need to re-check yourself. You do yourself a disservice with this kind of thinking.
Lars: Nah, we’ll keep ‘em here. You, however, are quite welcome to set up residence on the moon, Mercury or whatever other planetary object suits your fancy.
Nonc Hilare: Sssh!! They’re not supposed to be told why it’s called an institution until it’s too late. ![]()
Quite the topical discussion at the minute… I am straight and the single dad of a 3yo boy. My younger brother lives with me. As brothers and house mates, we share domestic duties. As my son’s uncle, my brother shares a loving relationship with my son, as do I.
My brother and I are 2 blokes raising a boy. Problem?? I don’t think so. Neither of us are gay, nor do we associate with gay people (just don’t know any). Neither of us are religious. We have the attitude that treating people with respect will get you respect.
How about we think about gay marriage for a moment… Two people of the same sex get married, how the hell does that affect the ‘christians’ and others currently against it?? This is the thing I just can’t understand. What damage will it do to their tiny insignificant lives? It’s something that can mean the world to 2 people and means virtually nothing to anyone else. Why do you even care?? It’s their choice, let them have it.
Get real lives, people.
On the other hand, after going through separation I wouldn’t marry again (sorry ladies ;)), so I’m not sure I really see the big deal.
Live and let live, biggot wankers.
Meh.
As much as this has it’s points, it relies on the exact same overblown rhetoric used by those who oppose gay marriage.
For instance, there’re damned few people who will actually concede that we live in a “theocracy”. Those who actually embrace this concept are, besides finding themselves in a minority (albeit a vocal one), are talking heads attatched to some lobby or organization which, despite the aforementioned ostentatious nature, aren’t actually representative of a significant number of people.
As amusing as this piece is, it’s also supposed to be thought provoking. Those folks who actually need to have their thoughts provoked on this issue aren’t going to be reached; those who, for whatever reason, agree whole heartedly already use are already actively employing this rhetoric, and those folks who are sitting dead center are going to evaluate the hyperbole as overblown, and continue to sit comfortably on the fence.
It’s the fence sitters who will turn the tide on this issue. So long as those selling the idea that gay marriage is not, will not be the end of our social order as we know it need to find a way to communicate with the fence sitters that doesn’t include irreverence and ridicule of what are considered “traditional values”.
What is forgotten here is that even folks who believe in “traditional values” may not personally agree with gay marriage, but will agree that precluding it by legislation is as dangerous to the freedom of embracing “traditional values” as it is to gay marriage itself.
More dialogue. Fewer recriminations and less ridicule. From both sides.
I don’t really expect anyone here to take this comment seriously, but here we go anyway:
1. Homosexuality is not “natural.” .There is no evidence of a so-called “gay gene.” (Yes, I agree that comes from a biased source; but I challenge you to demonstrate accepted scientific research showing that there is a genetic cause of homosexuality.)
But in another line of thinking, homosexuality is just as “natural” as any other vice. Every child wants the cookie he can’t have; many teens want smoke even though smoking is demonstrably bad; and finally, look at the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina to see the real “natual” essence of mankind. Without authorities to stop them, theft and abuse were widespread. Yes, it is natual to desire bad things, but this doesn’t make bad things good.
2. There’s more wrong to gay marriage than simply encouraging others to be gay.
3. It was said when Canada was trying to legalize gay marriage that a slippery slope towards polygamy would never happen. Well, guess what? It has happened.
And just look at what is available from the porn industry. There is no end to what people can come up with: bestiality, etc. I predict, and you can hold me to this, that within a few years, people will start looking to try to make bestiality legal.
4. You’re right. Marriage has changed over the years. But the basic premise upon which marriage was instituted has remained the same. It was designed to be between a man and a women. Over the years, the types of men and the types of women who have married have evolved, but it’s still between a man and a woman.
5. This is a logical fallacy. Nobody ever said *all* straight marriages are executed sacredly. Marriage, *period*, is sacred, and I believe Britney Spears took part in desecrating the institution of marriage. So does everyone else who cheat on their spouses.
6. While having children is a big part of marriage, it’s not the primary reason for marriage.
7. This is the same logical fallacy as point #2. A Liar does not necessary raise liars; a theif does not raise only theives. A politician does not raise only politicians (except for the Kennedy’s). And nobody ever said gay people only raise gay children.
8. The US is not a theocracy. Merriam Webster’s defines a theocracy as “a government by immediate divine guidance or by officials who are regarded as devinely guided.” The minute you tell me George Bush is divinely guided, I’ll concede this point. Islamic countries are far more of a theocracy than the US is.
9. I wish parents would get along to raise their children. There is ample evidence that children grow up much better in a two-parent home. among many others.
10. This goes along with #9. Gay marriage may indeed change the foundation of society, and this is a cause for grave concern. When children lose their foundation of good family homes and good upbringings, we will lose our status as the greatest country in the world.
To close, I don’t hate gays. I don’t hate anyway, for that matter. We are all people. But certain actions are simply immoral. As the saying goes, hate the sin, not the sinner.
1. Homosexuality is not “natural.†.There is no evidence of a so-called “gay gene.â€Â
There is evidence that shows certain biological factors in being gay, such as having many older brothers. Homosexuality is not a ‘normal’ state but it is a natural one, in that is not dependant on a man just waking up one morning and thinking “Thats it, Im off chicks, bring on the men, George always looked cute in his shorts”
2. There’s more wrong to gay marriage than simply encouraging others to be gay.
Reading down your list it is clear that you start from a position of “Gay is Bad,” thus Homosexuality must somehow ‘prove’ itself to you. This comment is a prime example of that attitude. No reasoning or backing logic for the comment, just that it’s “wrong”.
3. It was said when Canada was trying to legalize gay marriage that a slippery slope towards polygamy would never happen. Well, guess what? It has happened.
Whoop dee doo. There have _always_ been people wanting to make polygamy legal (from memory Mormans can have multiple wives.) Legalising Gay marriage will not change the people pushing for polygamy. To be honest I wouldn’t have a problem per se with legalisation of polygamy (see below).
people will start looking to try to make bestiality legal.
There is a differnce between adult+adult sex and adult-child-animal anything else sex (interestingly a point that is overlooked by men of the cloth on occasion) which is CONSENT. An adult can’t get ‘real’ consent from a child and you can’t say an animal gave consent no matter how doe-eyed it looked at you.
4. You’re right. Marriage has changed over the years.
Marrige is now more about commitment and a legal standing for shared rights in realtion to the partner more than anything else. The easy and commonality of divorce saw to that (and is an entirely seperate topic).
And nobody ever said gay people only raise gay children.
Actaully, people do. it is a common argument against gay adoption (which marriage may give them easier access to) that children raised by gay parents will be ‘tainted’ by gayess. Whenever I hear people say that out loud I wonder how they can without realising how stupid it sounds.
The minute you tell me George Bush is divinely guided, I’ll concede this point.
Google +bush+god+iraq. I guess we can consider this point conceded.
There is ample evidence that children grow up much better in a two-parent home.
Yes there is. And there is also evidence that having both a mother and father is important at differnt stages of life. BUT fact is more and more children grow up in single parent families and so long as they have access to immediate role models it is belevied they get the input they need. Its is not just homosexual parents that need to make an effort here, straight single parents need to make an effort to. The problem is it is debateable whether children were better of in uncomfortable homes when divorce was all but unheard of or in a home where they use people outside of immediate family as role models. Based on a modern marriage, no difference between homo/hetro child rearing.
When children lose their foundation of good family homes and good upbringings
Again the assumption is that gay = BAD. A stable gay family is a far better environment than one where the parents argue all the time, husband beats the wife and they get a divorce. Please note, I think that Gay marriages will have the same faliure rate for the same sorts of reasons as stright ones. But marriage in this day and age is not the same as it was “back when.” I think this is the point people who are anti-gay marriage are missing.
As the saying goes, hate the sin, not the sinner.
Yep, I don’t hate biggoted small minded selfish idiots, just everyhting that they say and do, other than that you’re all hunky dory in my books.
This list attempts to imply that homosexuality is a state of being like being black or female. It isn’t. No matter how many times gays chant otherwise, it is still a choice.
As such this list is sadly invalid and demonstrates how logical thought (though not humor) has departed from our culture.

Amusing? Yes. Words to live by? No. Comparing homosexuality to polyester is funny. But, like most of the list, it’s just wordplay. It goes no deeper.
Saying “children can never succeed without a male and a female role model at home” is obviously not true, but that’s the power of adding the word “never”, isn’t it. In most cases kids thrive when they have one father and one mother. Sorry if that’s not a witty quip, but I’m afraid that is the boring reality.
Homosexual “marriage” changes society in a very negative and perverse way. You can call me a “fucking idiot” too if it makes you feel better, but it really shouldn’t anger you that not all people will always agree with you.
Thanks for the amusing and witty entry. IMHO, the illegality of gay marriage is one of the single largest failures of our country. It makes no logical sense to me that the ban on gay marriage is not unconstitutional.
Seperation of Church and State anybody? I mean, who else is opposed (vehemently) aside from the religous right?
For the record “Lou #62, I feel most gay couples would make better parents then most straight couples.
the bible says “a man shall not be with a man” and “a woman shall not be with a woman”
did i make that easy enough for everybody to understand?
nobody is born gay…going to hell is your own choice.
One more comment,
People like Rick Morley, post #24, are the reason we have seperation of church and state. Quit arguing from a theocratical position and use logic. The bible is not logic, not all americans are christians, and shouldn’t be governed by christian rules.
I thought the original americans came to this land to escape religous persecution. I guess it has come full circle!! Maybe I should flee to Canada to escape the religious persecution that is occuring in this country.
So going to hell is your own choice huh?
So I am born only to choose to go to hell anyways, just like I choose to go to jail, or just like I choose to dive off of a cliff, or just like I choose to brought up in a neighborhood of crack-addicted parents. Yup, sounds like a valid argument.
I am also chosing to have aids, and whatever horrible death I can conjure up. I am choosing it so it’s all my fault
If you’re going to quote the Bible - quote it correctly. The Bible states “You shall not lie with a male as with a woman; it is an abomination.” Lesbians? Entertainment for straight men even then. And, no - it wasn’t a “whoopsy” as the Bible has various rules and regulations for women. Forbidding lesbianism isn’t one of them.
And going to “hell” is not someone’s choice. It’s your gods order that anyone who doesn’t submit to his tyrannical rule will be sent there.
Well, my partner Andrew and I got married in January under the Civil Partnership law of England, and the love of our friends and family has actually become stronger since then. An enlightened society values you and your relationship for its contribution to the others and not for your compliance to unprovable divine laws. If you are open, inclusive and generous with other people, they will be inclined to be the same with you. If what you sow is hate dictated by your fears, hate and fear is what you will harvest. What you should ask yourself is what have you done today for the people around you that will make you feel proud.
Not really, I know a few people who arn’t adopted but parents have become divorced and now have a step-mother/father who’s in a gay relationship with their original parent. They don’t really get bullied, at least not in the UK.
Yes, because kids from straight parents never get bullied. and kids always need a good reason before they bully other kids.
“Religious christians” dont have a sense of humour….. in fact most can barely spell I.Q. To be honest I’m amazed they managed to figure out how to switch their PC on and find this website… ![]()
If being gay is a choice for all gay people then so must being hetro for hetrosexuals. Of course this is obviously stupid - as are you.
I love the way people talk about hell like they are the ones that get to decide. If your a true christian, muslim or jew (monotheist) then you will know god will be the true judge over you. I doubt the belief of someone in god if they are trying to take the role of judge themselves. Do you think you are more important than god? Or maybe you dont believe in god anyway and just use it as an excuse? ps - a little secret….men wrote the bible, not god. god doesnt have hands to hold the pen you see. so do you put what some men say above god as well?
wow, as I was reading the above post, I was thinking of all kinds of ways I wanted to reply, but then I read your post and You’d already said exactly what I wanted to say, but much more elegantly then I would have. I expecially agree about the polygamy/animal thing and the “nobody ever said gay people only raise gay children” thing. By the way, whats so bad about polygamy, anyway? Sure I wouldn’t want more then one husband, and I wouldn’t want to be some guy’s 6th wife, or whatever, but as long as everyone is a concenting adult, power to ya. I’ll stay out of your bedroom, if you stay out of mine.
The bible says a lot of things. It says you should stone disobedient children, that you can sell your daughter into slavery, that eating shellfish is an abomination…should i go on? check out God hates shrimp(it’s hilarious) and why i can’t i own a canadian?.
Don’t you get it?, like I’m gay and black so what does that make me, you people will never understand. like you think my children will also be gay and black? - come on, I mean really, think about it…
oh dear. yes i think i will call you a fucking idiot, thanks. gay marriage changes society in a very negative and perverse way - how? why?! you are not giving any reasons or consequences. and think about your last line - “it really shouldn’t anger you that not all people will always agree with you” - absolutely, we all have our own opinions, but your right to disagree with gay marriage is not a right to defy or refuse it. mindlessly obeying a book written 2000 years ago on the other side of the planet does not give you default moral authority in the civilized West of the 21st Century.
Dude get over yourself and your religion
Why is it that Christians feel they are the moral conscience of society; I can’t for the life understand it. U dont need to be religous to have good morals.
“[...] we will lose our status as the greatest country in the world.”
As an American, nothing pisses me off (or embarasses me) more than some red, white, and blue pompous, ethnocentric idiot making this ridiculous claim. News flash, Rick. We’re probably not the greatest country, thanks in part to the arrogant attitudes of people like you and the moron you put in the White House. We could allow child molesters to marry 4-year old kids and do less damage to our global credibility than your people have accomplished. If Jesus really opposes gay marriage as much as you think He does, then He and the Easter Bunny, the Tooth Fairy, and Santa Claus probably don’t need your help in expressing their collective will.
[...] Over in the USA there’s somewhat of a furore at the moment about gay marriage; just in case my American readers don’t know which side to take on the debate, here are 10 Reasons why gay marriage will ruin society. [...]
Hilarious !!… reminded me of some french author (Montesquieu) who used the same technique to make people realize how stupid our society had become (subject was on racism in his essay).
Too funny.
The only reason I’d be against gay marriage is cuz I know straight ppl would take advantage of it to get health insurance and tax benefits. Damn straights.
Gay marriage? Bring it on! Us straight folk have to be subjected to marriage. Why the heck should gay people get a free pass??
How can this be a valid argument? Pointing out the hypocrisy is certainly fun and can bring some laughs. However, the real challenge is the moral relativism of western society. The normal has become abnormal, the abnormal is now normal. There is now right or wrong only tolerance and intolerance. Why put pedophiles in jail? Who is to say they are wrong? If both parties consent to the relationship, who are we to denounce and punish them? What about necrophilia, bestiality, and incest? When do we as a society draw the line between normal and abnormal behavior? Do we even have the right to decide what is normal behavior? They say that homosexuals do not choose the lifestyle rather it is a result of biology. What about the biology of a murderer? Physiatrists (the MD kind) have conclusively shown that the brain of a serial killer is different from a ‘normal’ brain. Are they to be set free then and given a ‘free pass’ since they did not choose their brain chemistry?
The point is the hypocrisy argument is a false argument. Any society which hopes to survive and thrive MUST establish and enforce social norms (i.e. right & wrong). Without it, the society is doomed to chaos and exploitation. No wonder the Muslim society looks at us and say we are all infidels and deserve death. With no moral compass we are nothing more and a chaotic selfish society.
Hmmm Quote the bible… against polygamy…better re-read your old testament, pilgrim…
In 2 Samuel 5:13; 1 Chronicles 3:1-9, 14:3, King David had six wives and numerous concubines.
In 1 Kings 11:3, King Solomon had 700 wives and 300 concubines.
In Deuteronomy 21:15 “If a man has two wives, and he loves one but not the other, and both bear him sons….”
If you believe in the whole enchilada… you can’t pick or choose one from column a, two from column b….Jesus said: “Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law (the Old Testament) or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke or a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law (the Old Testament) until everything is accomplished. (Matthew 5:17-18)”
Submitted by a non-gay, non-christian…who just doesn’t care what color, sex, or religion people are when they choose each other…I’ts about choices.
You’re wrong about “less ridicule” — only with more ridicule will these idiots recognize that they are wrong. Bigotry shrivels under the blinding light of comedy.
Exemplary idiocy. Amazing how wrong one can be, while using “reason” to make one’s case. You have clearly never read about the history of marriage — the real history, not the storybook given over by the opponents of equal protection. Your ignorance is showing, and it’s frightful. It is also unfortunately very widespread.
why focus on christians? all crazy evangelical religions or hardline conservative sects believe the same thing. or are strict muslims, hasidic jews, and confuscians suddeanly gay-friendly?
Wow — you are raving. Did you even stop to look at what you wrote? That is, did you notice how mnay splleing and grammmar misteaks yuo maid? Yikes! You must really have an amazing intellect, with just too many important thoughts swirling around in your head. You can’t type them down fast enough, huh? Maybe you are simply confused, and need to realign your “moral compass”.
Oh — good one there “John”, you old queer-baiter you. You sure made a funny. Yuk yuk.
Funny thing is, many of us who support the rights of gays and lesbians to marry each other are straight. I just happen to think that all of the social, legal, and financial advantages afforded to my wife and I in our marriage should also be afforded to gay and lesbian couples who are in committed, long-term relationships.
It’s pretty simple. Even you, John, with your tiny little mind full of the smell of “anal lube” (what ever that is — do you get that at WalMart?) — even you should be able to understand this.
Ensuring equal protection for gay and lesbian couples doesn’t weaken our marriage — but it does strengthen America and our ever-evolving, ever-expanding notion of equality. It helps friends and neighbors, people who I know personally, people who deserve the same protections as straights have enjoyed for years. It is about equal protection.
If you can’t see this, then you, sir, are a small-minded bigot.
I love it. I am a praticing mormon with several wives. I am pretty sure that moving the gay marriage debate further will mean that polygamy will soon be legal too. I am tired of hiding and I want to be allowed to marry as many women as I want without fear of the government.
I found this funny. I also find funny the responses - which are anticipated in the actual thing, I guess - which make wild leaps of blind logic: e.g., because the piece seems to be suggesting that two mature, responsible adults should be granted some kind of social and legal recognition, it must be supporting all lifestyles grouped by the dominant Christian ideology in the same bundle!
“Moral Relativism” - thanks for sharing your thoughts, I know you don’t have many.
The problem with an objective set of morals is deciding who sets them. Islam is the largest religion in the world, perhaps we should all be forced to live by their moral codes instead of our own? Maybe we should let white people decide what the objective moral code should be, or maybe only men, or maybe only gay men!
Second - the idea that the legal ramifications of marriage should somehow be tied up with morality and depending upon the government to define it is corrupt. It is not the government’s job to determine sanctity of marriage or the morality of an individuals life.
To those who oppose gay marriage - what about gay civil unions, giving them all the legal benefits without calling it marriage?
11. If gay marriages were legal, then why wouldn’t polygamy be legal too? After all, if it’s just about who ya love, then why can’t a person love multiple women (or men) at once, and get married to all of them?
P.s.: I am so sick of the phrase “gay marriage”. I say, call it “homogamy”. It has a nice, snobby ring to it.
I mean, what the hell is so gay about marriage anyway? Is one male marriage gonna do another male marriage in the butt? The only reason that phrase is even being used is because some dipshit in the media couldn’t come up with appropriate terminology to describe something his or her peebrain can’t understand or relate to, and because his or her boss (read: editor) couldn’t either, it stuck.
Bravo. I must admit, most people would actually think before typing but you, oh no you just typed away without any consideration for how little sense you make.
For brevity I will only bring to light a few of your less then educated points.
1. Using Britney’s “marriage” as the litmus test for how normal marriages are handled is laughable. While your at it why not use Elizabeth Taylor as your measuring stick.
2. Regarding Gays raising children, have a talk with Dawn Stefanowicz and tell me she had a normal upbringing. Don’t know who she is? In 2004 she testified at the Canadian Senate of Legal and Constitutional Affairs against “sexual orientation†being added to hate crime law.
3.I agree with your crazy behavior comment. That’s why the Canadian Govt is (trying) to put the age of concent back to 16 from 14. Guess who opposes this attempt? Equality for Gays and Lesbians Everywhere. Now why would they do that? Hmmmm let me see?
4. But the one that had me laughing the most had to be the tall statement. Let me see if I have this correct. When some one comes out, they are considered strong and brave. Yet when someone goes the other way they are considered brain washed and worthless by the gay community. That means somewhere in the process a decision is made. Last time I checked Shak didn’t have any choice in the matter. But given that gays can go straight, it would appear that choice plays a huge roll.
Do everyone a favor, especially the gay community, don’t make anymore lists you only make things worse.
My God, I’m getting so many hits from my comment on this thread that I had to see what the fuss was about.
I’m finding it both hilarious and disturbing that:
1) People actually think that you wrote this and therefore have to get so sanctimonious in your comments, whatever their position. (Not that I’m saying that you can’t write something so dead-on and hilarious, but c’mon people.)
2) That some people still think that this is a serious list. Hi, humour and satire. Nice to see you.
the bible says “a man shall not be with a man†and “a woman shall not be with a womanâ€Â
did i make that easy enough for everybody to understand?
nobody is born gay…going to hell is your own choice.
Not everyone is religious, you idiot. This is a free country - not a theocracy. If you believe it is against your religion, don’t have a gay marriage. Don’t force other people to be subject to the bindings of YOUR personal religion.
Seriously — why do people like you seem to have their head so far up their ass that they can’t grasp the simplest concepts on which a free society is founded?
Christians are the salt and light of the world. Without us there is no true advocacy for moral restraint.
Wow. Could you be any more of an arogant prick? As a libertarian agnostic, I find that incredibly offensive. Considering the attrocities comitted in the name of Christianity, how can you suggest that the world would lack morality and restraint without you? And what about the other 66% of the world that is NOT Christian?
Seriously, are you one of those idiots who goes around saying “well, if you don’t believe in the baby jesus, why aren’t you out there raping and killing people?”. People like you, who scare the hell out of the rest of the rational thinkers because YOU seem to be often suggesting by your insinuations against “non believers” that the ONLY thing holding you back from being an immoral, unethical, violent, murdering rapist is that you’re afraid some magical being will flutter out of the clouds and punish you for it… Absolutely frightening that you think that way.
Heh… funny stuff.
The thing I don’t get about homosexual marriages are why they have the need to be publically recognised. I mean, isn’t it enough that it’s simply *legal* to be gay? Would it be all that much of a stretch for me to marry my dog and get a resulting tax break from it? Which brings me to my next topic, getting a gay marriage just for the tax benefits. Say you’re rooming with another guy… and you are both straight. Why not get a paper marriage for the tax benefits? I actually like this idea… and I would give serious thought to trying it. ABUSE THE SYSTEM!!!!!!1
You know why gay marriage will ruin society! Because 50 percent of all marriages end because of gayness.

You have been brain-washed by liberalism and moral relativism. Look at what happened to Rome? They lost their moral compass (homosexuality, beastality, incest, pedophelia) and the ‘barbarians’ swept in and took them down.
If you are only worried about legal rights, get a lawyer. You don’t need a legal union to exchange legal rights. There are these documents call LAST WILL AND TESTAMENT and POWER OF ATTORNEY which cover about 99.9% of the legal union agrument for gay marriage.
This is about making deviant behavior ‘normal’ not legal rights.
If highlighting my poor typing skills is the best rebutal to my argument, then thank you. go back to sleep
The only reason that matters is that gay relationships do not qualify as marriage and the majority of those that are married refuse to have the institution redefined. If you silly homoactivists were really looking out for your own you would be advocating an equal “civil rights” situation rather than trying to force homosexuality down the throats (pun intended) of Americans that would really rather you existed without making so much damned noise about what separates you from the rest of us. Click my URI above to read a post I did not the subject yesterday.
unfortunately, you are probably right. After all, who really cares about inner-city murders? It all drug related and just blacks killing blacks. As long as it doesn’t hit the suburbs, Dick and Jane don’t care. I love the ‘not in my backyard’ argument.
Great rant! I agree with you, we are in big trouble when a christian is seen as a intolerant murdering pedophile while Gay lifestle is portrayed as normal american way of life for tolerant americans
two words: victimless crime.
a child cannot consent.
no one is being taken advantage of when two consenting adults choose to love each other.
but when you demonize a group of people.. there are victims: the group that you are attacking.
by engaging in such self-righteous religious judgement, you are committing a moral crime.
therefore, my god decrees you are going to hell. i’m serious. enjoy burning for all eternity with all the other misguided and bigoted homophobes, racists, and suicide bombers. cheers.
How can a 14 year old black inner city child be charged as a adult for murder but not consent to sexual relations???????
I never used religion as a basis for my argument. Obviously you are very confused if you think morality is a religion
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Morality
Finally, loving another person of the same sex is NOT homosexuality of deviant behavior. sodomity is and until recenlty it was illegal in the USA.
Nels hit the nail right on the head.
On the reals, though, this is mad funny… mad funny… unfortunately, it’s also thought-provoking. I say unfortunately because thinking makes my head hurt and because this should not even be a debate.
Comparing homosexuality to murder or beastiality is absurd, hateful and a strawman. We’re talking about people who love each other here, not people who kill other people. Get with it.
Further, homosexuality is not a “condition”, it’s something more… hard to say just what… I mean, how do we figure out the objective causes behind what attracts and comforts us? How do we define the objective causes of those things that makes us more or less sad or happy than other people?
Further, why don’t people look into the biological causes of hetero attraction? Because it’s not a political issue.
And who says homosexuality is “biological”? The jury’s still out on that one… Who’s to say that homosexuality or bisexuality is not “blown into” people by G*d, just like their souls?
Who’s to say there’s even such a thing as cut-and-dry homosexuality or heterosexuality and that these are not just fine lines drawn to make managing our lives easier?
As far as choice is concerned, homosexuality may not be a choice, but same-sex marriage is. It’s a choice to love and be dedicated to building the love between two people. It’s a choice to make the world a better place through creating a space dedicated to kindness and compassion between two people.
So here’s to choice. And getting all serious and rambling on a really funny thread (oops!)
Marriage is about procreation and building a family. The redefinition of marriage and family with the injection of abnormal behavior such as sodomy between same sex partners is absurd. Love has nothing to do with it either. I have same sex friends that I care for deeply and yes, I love them. But I do not perform sexual acts with them.
My argument is not a strawman. Abnormal behavior is just that. I point to beastality, pedophelia, incest, polgyamy as obvious abnormal behavior. Homosexuality is ABNORMAL.
Are you for real??
“Without us there is no true advocacy for moral restraint” is pure bullsh*t.
Moral restraint is not a christian-only thing. Pure arrogance in your statement.
One more personal attack upon homosexuals like the above and you will be banned. You will not come here and insult people in such a manner, is that understood?
KC - How is my comment a personal attack? I taking a moral position, not attacking a person. Take a look at the other post on this blog and you will find lots of personal insults thrown around.. Why me? my comments not politically correct and therefore are deemed a insult?
Not a personal attack? Being so pedantic about “normality”, and calling those who do not fit in those views of yours “abnormal”, sounds just like one.
(BTW this is a great list I have always loved, thanks for bringing it back to our attention.)
[...] Bligbi lists the top 10 reasons gay marriage will ruin society. I’ll give you a taste with my favorite: “Legalizing gay marriage will open the door to all kinds of crazy behavior. People may even wish to marry their pets because a dog has legal standing and can sign a marriage contract.” [...]
popagandhi -
http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/abnormal
I didn’t see any mention of insult in the definintion.
OHH WAIT.. you mean it is a politically incorrect word that has been judged and insult by folks like you and your ‘enlightened’ moral compass which says anything is ok as long as you are consenting adults… Right?
[...] I wandered across an interesting blog post earlier today - a satirical post bringing out some of the hard points about the gay marriage issue that has been floundering in and out of congress lately here in the States. It prompted some thought on my part, and as someone in the blogosphere who isn’t for gay marriage, I thought I’d jot down some of my thoughts. The quoted excerpts are from the original post (and remember, the tone is satire). Being gay is not natural. Real Americans always reject unnatural things like eyeglasses, polyester, and air conditioning. [...]
MR - You are being singled out because to my knowledge you are the only one engaging in a openly hostile behaviour towards a group of people who are also third parties to what you are responding to.
If you review the thread, you will see that you are the only person on your side of the issue calling homosexual men “deviants” and accusing them of being “abnormal”.
This is not acceptable behaviour. If you can’t make your point without insulting homosexuals (or lesbians for that matter), then this is probably not the blog for you on this issue.
Homogamy is a brilliant phrase.
Did you write this piece, KC? It’s hysterical.
Legalizing gay marriage will lead to married gay people. That’s it. Ballgame. Everything else is speculation, and lousy speculation at that. Do polygamists not have lobbyists already? (Should have hired Abramoff…)
Bestiality and pedophilia are easily distinguished by age of consent. Polygamy is easily distinguished by the number of partners (has to do with marriage tax laws, among other things). What are the other slopes people are worried about?
This is one of the last frontiers for two consenting adults.
The argument appears to be:
A religious text says it’s an abomination (the same one that says eating seafood that lacks fins and scales (Levitius 11:11), eating certain birds of prey (Leviticus 11:12) and all insects (Leviticus 11:23 and 11:41) and other biblically unclean animals (Leviticus 20:25) are abominations.) As Elisabeth Anne Kellogg comments - “While some will point out that homosexuality and cross-dressing are in the same category as incest and bestiality, it should be noted that so are divorced people who remarry, those who have sex during menstruation and children who fight with their parents.” (see: Wikipedia - Abomination (Bible))
And then go read up on the First Amendment and get over your little “because that’s what God says” fantasy here in the USA.
But this is silly. The real reason so far as I can discern it is that the icky factor is high. Thinking about men hooking up with men is icky to some people, although less so since shows like Queer as Folk and Will and Grace have become popular.
Oh, but wait a minute, I think you forgot something: the list is a joke, taking the piss out of unthinking buffoons like you. And who exactly do you think life is easy for?
You’re being slightly disingenous about the fact that you didn’t actually write this, with the original being found here. A single link to another copy of the same article, given without explaination, is hardly sufficient credit.
You lost me at “I find that offensive.” Why should he, I or anyone give a shit if you’re offended? Everybody gets offended sooner or later, and if you prod somebody hard enough, you’re bound to find some ridiculous triggers.
Being offended is virtually meaningless.
Just laugh at such a ridiculous comment and move on. If we want to do something about these klaxons what bellow irrational thought, why don’t we just cut the crap and act according to reality: they are desparate anachronisms clutching to what shred of the timeline they have left. Treat them as such.
“Marriage is about procreation and building a family”
Can heteros get married without the intent of building a family? Would it be your position to outlaw marriage of women beyond their child-bearing years?
“Homosexuality is ABNORMAL”
Prove it. (And if the best you can do is just quote an ancient book, then you can stop trying to convince us that your morals are absolute either.)

As for all the religous zealots, y’all just prove that religon is for those too weak minded to deal with our insignificant place in the universe without leaning on an imaginary friend.
PS: Now for some real food for thought. Why is it I can build a PC from the ground up but have so much trouble using the keyboard?
NATURE Proves not Religion:
It is abnormal because it serves to biological purpose. Sex between a man and a woman is meant to make babies. Can’t be done in a homosexual relationship.
Ohh I see, so because I am in the minority position on this blog, I don’t have standing to express my opinions? Wow, sound like th religious rights argument for keeping homosexuals ‘in their place’ sine they are only a small minority of the population.
Anyway, it’s your blog, do what you will. If you wish to keep those rose colored glasses on and be reassured by your drone regular blog posters, so be it.
My argument has never been personal or religious or vulgar in anyway. Moral Relativism is my point. Homosexual marriage is just a point on the moral compass…. civilizations prosper, and succeed by adopting a single entrusted moral compass which guides the ethics of the civilization.
IMO, adopting gay marriage is simply a symptom of the breakdown of the civilization we call the USA.
Ciao
Sure. And infertility in straight people, as well as condoms and other contraceptive devices, makes anyone engaging in sex not for procreative or biological reasons, abnormal, I’m sure.
What is it about calling people “fucking idiots†that makes you feel better about yourself? Did I make some reference to “a book written 2000 years ago”? Having two lesbians raise teenage boys, for example, is indeed “very negative and perverse”. If gay people want to live together that is their prerogative. But to pretend that is marriage is foolish. Marriage has always meant one man and one woman. There is no reason to redefine it because some gay guy decided he is offended now. Nobody is saying that homosexuals should all be killed, but can we quit pretending that they are exactly the same as heterosexuals in every way?
On what basis do you “feel most gay couples would make better parents then most straight couples”? That is ludicrous.
[...] Bligbi » 10 Reasons Why Gay Marriage Will Ruin Society A funny top ten list on gay marriage. (tags: politics humor religion funny gay marriage homosexuality) [...]
Well, by definition, infertility and contraceptive devices do create an abnormal situation. Perhaps you are confused about the definition of the word?? I posted a link the definition elsewhere in this blog.
One more thing, since when are homosexuals and lesbians two different groups? I certainly was wrong to think this blog contained rational, crticial thinking people instead of politically correct drones.
[...] gay marriage will ruin society! reason number 5 - “Straight marriage will be less meaningful if gay marriage were allowed; the sanctity of Brittany Spears’ 55-hour just-for-fun marriage would be destroyed.” [...]
I believe in God, and Jesus. I consider myself a christian but I dont see the problem in gays getting married. How will it hurt you? You can still go marry that woman you love. The concept of marriage wont change. A marriage is a legal document. whether or not the two people have signed this peice of paper will not stop them from loving each other, or wearing ring or being forever devoted to one another. whats wrong with adding a little more love to the world, like you said “our lack of love for each other…”, so a little more love wont hurt anyone. Do us all a favor and get off your soap box, tone down your ego and act like a christian. Love everyone and dont stand in the way of them loving each other.
“To those who oppose gay marriage - what about gay civil unions, giving them all the legal benefits without calling it marriage?” - I applaud you, now, before you think I’m a homophobe or anything… let me explain.
To me there are two different kinds of marriages. There are the state marriages, and then there are the religious marriages. Now let me clarify even further.
A state sanctioned marriage is just that. You can go down to the courthouse and get one. You can have an appropriate official get your signatures, read the whole speech, and tell you to kiss the bride (or whatever). A religious marriage is a whole different affair. Take for example, the catholic church - they require a period of premarital counseling, further more, they expressly forbid divorce, and in NO CIRCUMSTANCES will they allow it. Annulment is the closest you can get, and really, all it says is that the marriage wasn’t really ever there because of whatever reason they gave the annulment for (sometimes it is that one party didn’t realize what they were getting into, or one of the partners lied about who they were, etc, at any rate).
As such, I have no problem saying that I think that religious marriages should be restricted to man & woman - at least if that religion believes that it is the proper way to be. However, At the same time, just as the government has no right to tell the churches what to do, the churches should have no right to tell them what to do.
In that, I feel that they should be given something that is equal in status and connection as a state endorsed marriage. I feel that they have every right as a human being to do as they please as long as it does not prevent my right to be reasonably free (i use this term, because we cannot do anything we w
