Larry Darby, former director of the Atheist Law Center, received 44 percent of the vote in Alabama’s Attorney General Race. In recent times Mr. Darby has came out as a Holocaust denier and a white supremacist in spite of the fact that he has two daughters whose mother is Chinese. He also recently supported the shooting or hanging of immigrants (whom he identified specifically as Mexican).
So, how did he get so many votes? While it would be easy to slam Alabama as just that damned hateful, I think another reason is afoot. The sheer ignorance of the voters who just picked a name without bothering to find out what was behind the name.
