Capitalism Gone Wonky: Selling Gitmo

Writing about Auschwitz reminded me of an experience I had as a young child with a Holocaust survivor and how she explained the tattoo on his forearm as something that happened ‘back in the war’. Since Gitmo has come to light I’ve often wondered how the survivors of Gitmo and the other un-named prisons are going to explain things to the next generation without scaring the crap out of them.

So, I decide to check out the latest news about Gitmo and at the top of the screen I find this:

Something is very very wrong when searching for information on a continuing crime against humanity returns ads for western companies beckoning one to come to their place for products related to it. I could see an ad by Amnesty and the other charity organizations - but Cafe Press and Ebay?

In contrast, no such ads pop up for searchs on the Holocaust, the Irish Dispora, the African Dispora, slavery and several other terms connected to bad behavior on the part of certain western countries.

Without struggle, there is no progress. This struggle might be a moral one. It might be a physical one. It might be both moral and physical, but it must be a struggle.
